poll: where do you fit in politically?

where do you fit in?

I am very liberal on social issues (though, in what may come as a bit unusual, I'm not at all in my personal life).
I am pretty liberal when it comes to the economy, though I also have a lot of issues with the organizational structure. I'd like to see more problems addressed with taxing negative externalities and then using the funds to address the problem, instead of doing the same thing using regulations.
I am a realist when it comes to foreign policy. This line of thinking as a deep tradition in both parties (Kissinger, Brzezinski, Scowcroft). I am uncomfortable with the general interventionist strain in both parties.

Still middle of the road; depends on the issue presented. I too find the "tags" to be of little use.

A small number of questions. Always fun to take those quizzes, though.
Took one a while back, no longer remember where, that had me as far more radical/anarchist than I really am. Something like 150 questions. Have taken a few more and the overall result on this one, even with just a few questions, is closest to reality.

For instance the results on this quiz:

I reject the assumptions on several of the questions, but they have to be answered to get to the final result.

The Quiz

The following are your scores. They are based on a gradual range of 0 to 12. For instance, a Conservative/Progressive score of 3 and 0 will both yield a result of social conservative, yet 0 would be an extreme conservative and 3 a moderate conservative

score_5.jpg
Conservative/Progressive score: 5
You are a social moderate. You think the progressive movement is overall well meaning, but sometimes it goes too far. On issues like abortion and affirmative action, you see the negatives of both extremes on the issue. You probably value religion, but at the same time you think it should still stay separate from the government

score_0.jpg
Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 0
You're a Capitalist Purist. You believe that the market should be completely free, and that the invisible hand of the market will make sure that the people get what they want and will do it in the most efficient way possible. You believe in small government, less taxes, and more privatization.

score_0.jpg
Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 0
You are libertarian. You think that the government is making way too many unnecessary laws that are taking away our innate rights. You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascism.

score_0.jpg
Pacifist/Militarist score: 0
You're a Pacifist. You are angered that the United States thinks it should dominate the world through its military force. You think that the only time war is necessary is when we are in direct danger of being attacked. You also believe the US spends way too much of its money on defense, as we can practically cut it in half and still easily defend ourselves, and use that money to fix all our economic problems.

Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Hardcore Libertarian

According to your results, you are an anarchist.

I have no idea how a classical liberal like myself would fit into those options.

On the advocates quiz CENTRIST! Political Compass, slightly left libertarian.

I have no idea how a classical liberal like myself would fit into those options.

I also see myself as a classical liberal, i.e. libertarian (small 'L") as the Founders would have described their ideology. So given the options offered in the poll on this thread, I would probably say I am right, but not far right in that only the most hard core modern day libertarians who don't want ANY restrictions on much of anything would fall into that category. I am not left (as those favor big, authoritarian government) or far left--the hard core socialists/Marxists among us.

I agree with the Founders that only a moral and mostly non rigidly-religious people are likely to be successful at self governance. And I agree with the Founders that the federal government should secure our rights and then leave us alone to form whatever sort of society we wish to have. The hardcore libertarians oppose that as they don't want society to impose any kind of moral restrictions on much of anything, at least for adults, and the Leftsts oppose that as they want the government to have the power to dictate what sort of society we will all have.

However, I agree with others here that trying to agree on defnitions of terms is like herding cats on this board. :)

I consider myself to be far left, and I see I'm the only one who's voted for that so far.

But I'm fairly certain my definition of "far left" is going to be pretty different from yours.

We have a lot of new members since the last poll was taken so I thought I'd put one up. I'm going to keep it simple so i hope there aren't complaints about not enough options. :)

As Ann Coulter once said, "As far as I'm concerned, I'm a middle-of-the-road moderate, and the rest of you people are crazy."
