Poll: Romney's unfavorability rating on the rise

(CNN) – Less than three months before Election Day, a new poll released Wednesday indicates Mitt Romney is still struggling with favorability ratings.

According to the ABC News/Washington Post survey, 49% of Americans have an unfavorable view of the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, while 40% see him in a favorable light.

The poll also shows that Romney's unfavorability rating has increased since May, when 45% had a negative view of the Republican candidate. According to the poll's release, Romney is "laboring under the lowest personal popularity ratings for a presumptive presidential nominee in midsummer election-year polls back to 1984."

Wednesday's results are in line with a Pew Research Center poll from last week, which found Romney's favorability rating had dropped slightly in the past month, with 37% saying they held a positive view of Romney in July, compared to 41% in June.

Meanwhile, President Barack Obama has higher positive ratings than his Republican challenger in the new ABC News/Washington Post survey, with 53% of Americans saying they view the president favorably, while 43% say they hold an unfavorable opinion...

I'm a liberal...well, for the most part....and I don't adore him. I think he's the best option...but I am certainly not enamored with the guy...Didn't fight hard enough with the AHCA, signed yet another free trade agreement that will export more jobs and money out of the country, and a few other things that bothered me...but those two are the biggies.

Like I said, I'm voting for Obama...but I don't adore him.

I'm not so sure Romney is going to work out for you guys right now, he has a lot of baggage and probably many skeletons in the closet that are going to come out, one by one, slowly but surely. The tax-returns are but the beginning. With Romneys split-personality I'm sure he has acquired many bitter enemies over the years.

As opposed to the candidate that proposes to do the same thing that got us into this shitstorm. I think they will. But the fact remains that people just don't like Mitt. They don't like his arrogance, they don't like his flip-flops, they don't like his lies, and don't like his privileged elitist attitude. Newt and Santurum's "vulture capitalist" campaign certainly took its toll on Romney being a big part of the problem.

If Mitt was at all likable, given the current economy, he'd be light years ahead in the polls. People don't care who created the mess, they're always willing to fire the coach, but Obama still leads.
