A less bruising primary season than the eventual Republican candidate.

No major net downside in foreign policy.

Get the TSA aggravation of voters under control.

So no matter how it affects his family, he just can't vote for a Muslim.

It made me realize how dirty the Republican Party is. They will say any lie and smear anyone to stay in power. But I have to admit, why am I surprised? Seriously. They are willing to cut off unemployment for millions of Americans just before Christmas so 1.7% of their base can receive hundreds of billions in tax breaks. This is the true Republican Party. The big news in 2008 was that we finally got a non-white elected president and the GOP will attempt to get a woman elected in 2012 since that is also on the American voter's to do list, might work. But those are gimmicks the real problems are:

Both majors are clueless as to what they would like the US to be like in 10 years.

Their coalitions are at war with each other internally which is a good indicator of a spectrum shift in the works.

Both parties are increasingly regional parties with little support out side of their hard core base.

Look at Obama the left sees him as to the right of the 50s McCarthy and the right as somewhat to the left of Trotsky while independents see him as soft and gooey. Except for the soft and gooey part he has the same public image as Bush. So Obama has become a been there, done that, got the t-shirt and is therefore probably gone but the same will most likely be true of his replacement.
