It's my opinion that the left wing is not an opponent of capitalism. What do you think?
As with pretty much all issues, there are crazies on both ends. Many on the right are completely paralyzed by libertarianism - absolute free market capitalism, no constraints, no protections, you're on your own - and there are people who are pure anti-capitalism - businesses are evil, business owners are evil, profits are evil, capitalism is evil, etc. You can certainly find them both on this board.

And since the chasm between the tribes is only growing, we'll see these people only get more intellectually pure, naive, binary and simplistic.

I think some of them feel that way, and I think those ones don't really think through what it would mean to end capitalism.
Precisely. Once you get a zealot (side or issue irrelevant) beyond the sloganeering -- IF you can -- there's little meat on the bones.
What does the end of capitalism mean?
It's a hypothetical question, because it's not going away, and if it did, it would certainly return in some form.

Hypothetically, it would mean a short period of great social turmoil as it prepared to return.

I can't partake in the poll because I only speak for myself.

So you're left wing and want to end capitalism. What does the system do we replace it with look like? Do you fully understand what it would mean to end capitalism?
I'm a left wing Marxist.

You are aware of Marxist theory, yes?

I think I have an understanding about the elimination of capitalism. It doesn't scare me. What do you think I should understand?

What means of control would you use to control the masses?

What is the significance of asking a hypothetical question and how is it precisely stated if you can't even go into detail about the significance that capital has on our society?

The masses will not need to be controlled. The more the capitalist system of production comes into conflict with meeting the needs of society, the more people will look for an alternative. The question becomes, how long can capital control the masses?

The question was asked of me earlier in the thread. You apparently agree with the reasoning, you should be able to explain why. Capital must have some significance that you feel that society cannot transcend.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I did not read that post. I just made a comment in response to another poster.

I think Capitalism is a shit sandwich for most people.

I don't really want to replace it, though. I just want to go back to when we made it work.

That would be the period between 1945 and 1980, when the rich paid their fair share, most working folks belonged to unions that protected their rights as workers, and the wealth was reasonably and fairly distributed. If you were white, anyway... So I guess I want a version of that where people of color can get easy access, too.

But, naw, we should keep going with more and more wealth concentrated in fewer and fewer hands, because that always ends up well.

See also- France 1787, Russia 1917, Cuba 1959, Iran 1979...

Yup, Stormy Mac is going to tell us how enlightened he is as long as he kissed Trump's ass while he makes money in the stock market.

And when the Stock Market crashes, he'll be the first to turn on Trump.

It worked so well under Marxist rule. Freedom is inherently part of human nature.

Yeah. That Marx was a horrible tyrant as a leader. And his brohers were total clowns.

Yes, freedom is part of human nature. It is a shame that capitalists deny free people the unhindered development of their own socioeconomic constructs.

Why do you think it is that literally no country on Earth practices true Marxism?

Marxism most often fails because it attempts to suggest ...
There is no difference in a $20 whore and a $1500 whore ...
That you should be the whore and society or government gets to pimp you out.

Right, and all I am asking is that you clarify what you believe the consequence of ending the capitalist system would be. You think it hasn't been thought through properly. There must be a reason, or it is just rhetoric.
