Largest tax increase?

Finally, the health care law is not the largest tax increase in history. We looked into this topic in detail when we fact-checked Rush Limbaugh’s statement that the health care law is "the largest tax increase in the history of the world."

That detailed analysis can be found here, but the bottom line is this:

Depending on your rounding, tax increases resulting from the health care law are about the size of tax increases proposed and passed in 1980 by President Jimmy Carter, in 1990 by President George H.W. Bush and in 1993 by President Bill Clinton.

The health care law’s tax increases are smaller than tax increases signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1982 and a temporary tax signed into law in 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. And they are significantly smaller than two tax increases passed during World War II and a tax increase passed in 1961.

It’s true that the tax increases in the health care legislation do reverse a trend of federal tax cuts and represent the first significant tax increases since 1993.

But they are not the largest in the history of the United States.

Conservatives really should stop listening to Rush Limbaugh. It's bad for them.

It must be terribly hurtful to know that the obamatax is less than those put into effect by Reagan. the Great (chuckle) tax cutter.

Glad to see you take ownership of the tax and its sizeable increase. That tax is against the middle class isn't it? Another Obama lie revealed by no one less than a lefty. lol

Yeah all these "estimates" work out well. I love liberals and their "estimates" It's all bs and nothing but monopoly money. But hey people like you think the stimulus worked or the Chevy Volt is a great car.....

Wonderful, it's only one of the largest tax increases in American history.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Do liberals really mean to start these stupid threads or do they leave their computers long enough for the family dog to fart out a new topic ?

To them history started only about 2008, the rest is unsubstantiated myth.

Very little of the healthcare taxes will be accessed against the middle class. The benefits to that same middle class will far outweigh the expense.

For the vast majority of the middle class now insured absolutely nothing will happen........unless they want it to. Given the realities of our present insurance system they may well want it to.

Really dumbass?

The poor will have it provided to them at no cost. The rich have the means to buy it or pay the tax whichever works out best for them. The bulk of folks paying the tax will be the middle class. You have no idea what the insurance will even cost. A fact carefully ignored by every liberal who discusses this topic.

You are focused on the Penalty, not the Increased cost of the Policies. You are also gullible enough to believe that the cost burden placed on the Health Care Industry will not be passed on to us? Look at the break down of your phone bill. You need to check your premise.

You're calling it Obamatax... That's so hilarious. I'm totally serious. You've already conceded the argument that it's a tax increase. And one of the largest in history.

And you think that somehow this is a victory because it's not the largest. Fine. You can have it. Obama has provided one of the largest tax increases in American history and you cant deny it.

This truly is a beautiful day.

Your sense of irony is broken.

Care to provide proof of that^(see red highlight above)? You got some magic crystal Ball, or are you just making shit up as you go along? I'm leaning toward the latter of the two.

Maybe he's using the same crystal ball that tells Conservatives ACA will be the biggest tax hike in history? Or that ACA will cost triple what they estimate it will?

Both sides like to play fast and loose with projections, but right now Conservatives have the motherfucking market cornered.
