The rank and file may still not see the writing on the wall, but the leaders certainly have known where this is going to wind up for quite a while now.

I have to give credit to the protesters though. 70,000 is a BIG number, and to sustain 10s of thousands for 2-3 days shows some serious conviction, especially in the light of the beating they knew they would take over not being faithful to the students or their profession.

They put up a good fight. But there never was any other outcome other than collective bargaining having to disappear, for a while, at least.

And it might have even been a good fight if they had ever had a real chance of winning it (if there were other budgetary options).

Good game, boys!

Its not a debate or a contest when there is no fucking money to fight over. There is no reason to let the unions at the table when the outcome is so obvious. Why aren't the federal workers unionized? If its a conflict of interest for federal workers, it has to be a conflict for state workers too, especially when there is civil service to protect the employees.

Taxpayers simply can't afford the lavish benefits, especially "defined benefit" pension plans. If the unions go, the workers get to invest their union dues and come out way ahead financially.

I wouldn't be so confidant.

This is going to blow up in Walker's face.

Not likely. Most voters would rather have a balanced State budget than State worker's unions. If unions are not allowed for Federal workers, unions should not be allowed for State workers.
