I want to know why "constitutionalist" wasn't on the poll.

I guess it would be between Fascist, and Conservative?

Where's the option for "Just a black man, trying to keep 'The Man's' foot off my neck in the form of economic and social oppression?"

Constitutionalist would probably be conservative.

That is what I thought too.

I just find it funny that the idea of being a libertarian or constitutionalist is often missed by most polls or even the populace when that seems to be what the focus was when the nation was founded.

It is almost like we have taken our eyes off of our textual heritage in place of looking at MAN for leadership.

-Woah.....where have we seen THAT before?

I don't consider strict adherence to the Constitution a political leaning. Every party in the country should have that as it's foundation.

In the real world however, and with respect to this poll, I'd lump them in with the conservatives.

It's sad that it IS in fact a political leaning these days to believe in the constitution. It makes you a right wing hate monger.

I don't agree that people who are constitutionalists are Conservative at all. There are some who are conservative in their beliefs and some that are more liberal.

The question brings up the dangers of trying to label people's political leanings with just one word. There are people who are socially liberal but fiscally conservative. Since there are few candidates who fit those categories they vote for the one (liberal/conservative) who will vote their way on the most important of the two leanings.

Like me: I am fiscally conservative and that is how I vote. A lot of the people that I vote for are also socially conservative - I don't always support that but am willing to live with it because I care more for economic conservatism. However, as a constitutional scholar (and advocate) I believe that all gun laws, anti-pornography laws, anti-prostitution laws, most FCC rules, anti-monopoly laws and many others violate the constitution.

How unfortunate that we cannot just vote for laws instead of people.

Well as I stated, someone's stance on the Constitution shouldn't really be considered a political leaning. You are either for the highest law in land as it is written, or you are a renegade and work to undermine it, in which case you are a fascist or a communist.

Obviously you can support the constitution and be on the left or right of the political spectrum, but the Constitution Party is a right leaning one.

If you are equally liberal socially and conservative fiscally, then you are a moderate. If you lean one way or the other, then you're that.

How unfortunate that we cannot just vote for laws instead of people.

I'd say it's unfortunate that the people voted for can't just adhere to the laws already written.

So who's the fascist?

Well, that would be me. But don't worry, so long as we live in a free-market republic, I'll play by the rules, wether I like them or not.

I haven't seen anyone say so strongly the clearest most obvious point about the Constitution on this entire board until now. This one point should be in every citizen's mind at all times.

Well, the problem with being either for it or working to undermine it is that the words on the page mean different things to different people. There is certainly quite a bit of interpretation necessary and actually performed as the document was written in general terms for the most part and so long ago. No piece of paper with words, no matter how intuitive and intelligent, can last forever.
