Plutocracy...

We need John Adams as President.

John Adams Quotes

Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of the people; and not for profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, the people alone have an incontestable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government; and to reform, alter, or totally change the same, when their protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness require it.

How socialist..

a greater threat than socialism?

The term "plutocracy" is formally defined as government by the wealthy, and is also sometimes used to refer to a wealthy class that controls a government, often from behind the scenes. More generally, a plutocracy is any form of government in which the wealthy exercise the preponderance of political power, whether directly or indirectly.

Which is the greater threat to our Republic, socialism or plutocracy? And, Why?

You can have a plutocracy in any form of government and with any kind of economy, too.

Socialism is certainly no exception to that rule. Neither obviously is capitalism ever going to prevent plutarchies from forming

In fact, the very nature of government tends to lead to plutarchy because power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Governments have power.

Governments are run by people

People are corruptable

Ergo sooner or later every government becomes corrupt UNLESS the people fight back and prevent it.

But please note that people are corruptable, such that no tyrant on earth has ever gone out of business because he couldn't find willing minions to do his bidding.

If you think that any constitution or set of laws, any economic system, or strcture of government can prevent that from happening, then you haven't been paying attention to history.

.

I'm not cynical enough to support your conclusion. All of that above your final sentence is true, but the conclusion is belied by the facts. The people of the U.S. turn out to vote in mass when the issues move them. Corruption and arrogance as well as incompetence resulted in a peaceful upheaval in 2006 and 2008 national elections.

At some point the plutocrats will overreach, and a great upheaval will shake the nation. Hopefully it will be peaceful, but I have no doubt history will repeat if the plutocrats do not mitigatge their greed. American history is the history of confrontation, from the Haymarket affair to the labor wars on the San Francisco Waterfront the voice of the people as well as their arms will be felt.

How so?

You need to get a handle on the word "control". America is a democracy of the people, by the people and for the people. Money is speech and everyone including the Sierra Club and the NRA and every one of the millions of corporations in America have the right to petition the government and campaign for the representatives they like. Personally I'm sick to death with the stealthy promotion of socialism by the ignorant and/or subversive left. Plutocracy? You guys need your left wing heads examined.

"man is the only animal which devours his own kind, for I can apply no milder term... to the general prey of the rich on the poor."

-- Thomas Jefferson; Letter to Edward Carrington (January 16, 1787)

Or the Prey of the Poor on the Rich.

I only got around to reviewing this thread this morning and at first look wonder where the Poor prey on the rich?
