Probably haven't heard this story, but an awful heartbreaking incident in Charleston. A beautiful innocent 5 year old girl was killed in a home invasion. Short version: Drug dealing thugs invade home they MISTAKENLY thought was home to a drug dealer. It wasn't. Was a nice Michigan couple who moved there 4 weeks earlier. They fire through door, bullet hit little girl in head.

A Charleston area Democrat- Wendell Gilliard proposed this Home Invasion Act. I'm a right winger, but support D-Gilliard 100% for trying to fight these crimes. It is being strongly supported by Dems and Repubs here, and rightfully so. This is an issue that partisanship can obviously be set aside for to fix a problem EVERYONE can agree is disgusting.

Home invasions are becoming more and more frequent. Something must be done. Please support Mr. Gilliard, and call your local law makers and recommend they too file a similar bill there. This could be ANY of us or any of our families who may get their home mistaken to be a dope house and invaded by soulless thugs like this.

Laws do not prevent crimes.
Murder has been illegal for centuries. We still have em.
The death penalty is not much of a deterrent either.
But I think violent criminals should be put to death anyway.

this crime was laready covered under existing laws.

But harsher punishment keeps criminals in jail. Thats what this law would do. It's already illegal. This would severely punish them. Prevent repeat offenders.

South Carolina has a death penalty. Home invasions that result in a death are presumably covered in the South Carolina death penalty statutes. What would the law cover except the ass of the politician who sponsored it?

If more people had guns for self Defense, we would have less home invasions. Not to mention we would save millions on trails for suspected Home Invaders, and all those appeals, if the home owner would just short cut the system and shoot the fuck in the face.

State Rep. Wendell Gilliard, D-Charleston, originally proposed the "Home Invasion Protection Act" in February. It would classify home invasions among violent crimes and provide that any home invasion or drive-by shooting that injures a resident would lead to a death penalty consideration, Gilliard said.

Home invasions are following the general trend of crime. Mostly based that there is a right to commit these crimes that exist in the minds of the perpetrators.

When you figure out the general trend of violent crime committed by multiple offenders we MIGHT be on the way to reducing them.

The girl's family does not support naming the bill after her. But they want to do it anyway. Well, one thing is certain, this isn't partisan. But it's still BS politics. Shame on them for trying to profit off of this family's tragedy. If they really want to help, buy the family a couple handguns and some safety classes.

No it wont.... WE DONT NEED MORE LAWS!!!!

Lets just enforce the ones already in place. Oh, and how about making it easier for individuals to protect themselves. (i.e. common sense gun laws)

The home in this case could have had an arsenal and that wouldn't have helped. The shooters fired through a closed door.

This is so common. In the ghettos, mothers put children to bed in bathtubs.
