Whenever I've brought up Obama's policies which includes rebuilding our infrastructure, Republicans say we can't afford it. When I ask Republicans about their policies, it's all just talking points like, "help small business, make things better, cut taxes, attract business" and so on. Do Republicans understand what attracts business besides "let them make whatever mess they want as long as they create a few low paying jobs"?

n.
1. An underlying base or foundation especially for an organization or system.
2. The basic facilities, services, and installations needed for the functioning of a community or society, such as transportation and communications systems, water and power lines, and public institutions including schools, post offices, and prisons.
3. the basic structure of an organization, system, etc.
4. (Economics) the stock of fixed capital equipment in a country, including factories, roads, schools, etc., considered as a determinant of economic growth
Just in case Republicans can't connect the dots, let me explain.
Corporations need to be able to move their goods. That means roads, trains and planes.
Manufacturing needs cheap, dependable electricity to run their machinery.
Manufacturing needs sewers and water. All manufacturing uses clean water.
Manufacturing needs skilled workers. That means education.
Small businesses in the North East flourished once Broadband was installed. Because they were able to expand their customer base.
Perfect Example: "We were inspired by the King Arthur Flour story,” says Scott Levitan, Director of Small Business Engagement at Google. “Here is one of America’s oldest companies embracing the web. The web has let them go from reaching people in their New England neighborhood to reaching bakers around the world."

I understand the foundation of conservatism is "fear of change", but change we must. Simply getting rid of regulations for clean air and clean water or regulations that protect the American people from unscrupulous corporations isn't enough. The country needs more than low paying jobs without health care or dental.
So far, the Republican plan seems to get rid of regulations for clean air and water, let corporations pollute and let big business do whatever they want to squeeze money from the American people. Even doing all that, they still won't "create jobs". Can you guess why?
Google CEO Schmidt Admits It's DEMAND That Creates Jobs
Creating jobs: How Demand Creates New Jobs

Business does not create jobs. Jobs are created by consumer demand
Nothing to do with "uncertainty". It's all about demand. Without money to spend, there is no demand.
Without demand, companies will not move here.
Without a modern infrastructure, companies will not move here.
Without a skilled workforce, companies will not move here.
So what can make us competitive and put money in people's pockets? Think about it. Try to connect the dots.
If Obama doesn't win, I suspect Mitt will follow his policies. If he is the businessman he says he is, what else can he do? Liberals always lead the way. "Do Nothing" is a failed ideology.
