WTH is the rationale for this?

Golf fans no longer able to call in violations

dec 12 2017 Golf fans will no longer be able to call in or email possible rules violations they witness while watching broadcasts of tournaments on television.

The golf governing bodies announced Monday that beginning Jan. 1, such information will not be considered in administering the rules of golf, according to a joint announcement made by the United States Golf Association and R&A

The viewer call-in issue has been a hot topic in the game for years. The governing bodies have always maintained that information gathered from anywhere to properly administer the rules -- there are not typically rules officials with every group -- was fair game.

They actually broadcast golf tournaments and people actually watch them! Amazing.

What was the rationale for ever allowing golf fans affect the outcome of a live event? Does this occur in any other sport? Would we be good about a fan being able to get the score changed in the Super Bowl by phoning in a penalty the refs missed? Lexi Thompson lost the US Open by a phone call because she unintentionally put her ball an inch from it's original spot on the green. There were several unreasonable golf rules that were revised for the good of everyone who is into golf.

Hey einstein. Football ain't golf. In football there is cheating on every play. In golf it's rare and it's good that the fans keep it that way. THINK

The rules changes are all good for the game including the one barring couch potatoes from phoning in perceived infractions during a live tournament. If you are a fan AT the event, you are still allowed to voice your complaint to an official and their are on site golf video analysts to review any possible violations.

Here is an excerpt from an ESPN article on the subject which contains a similar analogy to the one I made:

This is a win for those who witnessed Tiger Woods' post-round "witch hunt" at the 2013 Masters or Lexi Thompson's called-in penalty at this year's ANA Inspiration and felt queasy about the eventual result. After all, try calling in an NFL pass interference penalty or an NBA traveling violation from the comforts of home. Your opinion will be treated to nothing more than a lusty dial tone.

Stop comparing golf to football.. Everyone knows holding can be called on every play in the NFL.

ESPN supports golf cheaters.

If you don't understand golf rules and what specifically is changing in 2018 for golf rules, it's OK to just stop talking. You don't get it, or more likely you don't want to get it. No one is saying football is like golf, but both are professionally played events viewed by millions of people. THAT is the comparison.
