Huge mistake. Carroll is a college coach, and his style won't work in the NFL. He enjoys the interaction he has with student athletes. He enjoys that recruiting process. He enjoys the respect he gets from his players. He won't find those things in the NFL, and it will be a disaster.

For evidence: look at Nick Saban, Bobby Petrino, and countless other college coaches that have tried this.

I agree. Who was the last really successful college coach to jump to the NFL? Jimmy Johnson?

That's the last that I can recall.

I think what Pete doesn't realize is that he enjoys being a role model to these kids. His recruiting is pretty amazing, too. I watched a bit on one of those late night news shows about it once, and Carroll does a LOT of recruiting in the poor communities around Southern Cal. He really gets involved in that process. He's going to miss it.
