Pentagon Facing Future Recruiting Challenge Due to Lack of Candidates

Solving simple poverty in our republic can solve for many socioeconomic "problems".

Hmm ...

End welfare for those of working age. Wanna eat? You get a job, or join the military. You straighten your ass out or down the hole you go. No exceptions.

8 months ago the Afghan fight was at a stalemate. Now because of Trump’s policy decisions the Taliban can't win. It sets the conditions to get to a peaceful resolution of this conflict. But is it still a stalemate? Yes.

Also critical is getting rid of the Taliban safe havens in Pakistan. What is uncertain is how this will happen, though some officials suggest drone strikes. Since 9-11 Pakistan has ignored pleas and withholding money to eliminate these sanctuaries, which the Taliban uses to plan and regroup. Nicholson says our efforts can't be successful as long as those safe havens exist. Trump said no partnership can survive when one of the partners is providing safe haven to terrorists who are attacking the other. But Pakistan has been providing safe haven for years, so what is different now? Top-level officials from Washington already have met with Pakistani leaders, pressing them to end these sanctuaries. But some military officers and experts believe that is too optimistic. The Taliban control about 40 percent of Afghanistan, an area that is home to about a third of the population — 11 million people.

Former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage: The U.S. should not add troops but withdraw some and focus only on what is in the U.S. national interest. Armitage says the U.S. has spent too much time and effort on training Afghan troops who do not necessarily support their own government. "We can train Afghan soldiers again. We can equip Afghan soldiers again," "But what we can't do is make the Afghan government worthy of their sacrifice. They're not willing to die for that government." The new Trump strategy places too much emphasis on military action and not enough on diplomacy too. To assist the U.S. is sending another 4,000 troops to Afghanistan. The number of American troops next year in Afghanistan will increase from 11,000 to roughly 15,000.

At the height of the war in 2011, some 140,000 U.S. and NATO troops were fighting, but they could still not seal a victory against the Taliban. So you think 15,000 will? Trump says it will take about five years.

Well they will put the poor in the service, like they did with Nam, the elites went to college or paid a doctor for a slip. I'd hate to be young black man now.

I actually think its funny. Take away PT, Michelle Obama health eating, and put soda and MD's in high school. What did they think would happen.

I agree more people need to know the first amendment and their rights.

I find it truly alarming, especially this: "Bacon said, “Many of our youth don’t know the Constitution” and 27 percent of high school students could not identify a single right under it."

But, hey, let's trust the government to "educate" our youth even more, eh comrades?
Most of the Constitution is of little relevance to average Americans

They want to know which Congressman best represents their interests, they do not need to know the legislative powers of Congress vs the Chief Executive

Socialism on a national basis? We need real times of War, tax rates for that.

Capitalism is about, voluntary social transactions that may result in mutually beneficial trade.

You should have learned that at, "right wing catechism" already.

Why were any militia armed with shotguns, during the Civil War?

There is no exigency requiring service. Ask our Chief Magistrate of the Union; he proclaims we can lower taxes, like is custom and habit, during real times of Peace, not real times of War.

Beats starving, ya think?
In the third world. In the US, we have the legal concept of employment at will, and our at-will employment States.

It is why I don't take the right wing seriously about the law or politics.

If you ask most Americans, they realize they have freedom of speech and freedom of religion

They do not know they are not required to house soldiers or the details of Presidential succession per the 25 th amendment

A war for 17 years going to take another 5, too funny.

That's because we build hospitals and schools instead of merely flattening everything.

Perhaps that sentiment should be reconsidered?
How well did that work in Vietnam?

America has not fought a war with the clear intention of winning since 1945.
I agree to disagree. We merely used the wrong public policies at the wrong time.

The Vietnam war was not a formally declared war.

The rich merely do what they do when they get bored, invest their capital to get richer faster; public policies make that happen with less market volatility than "traditional free market activities".
