Paul Ryan To Obama: Do Not Continue To "Mischaracterize" Medicare Plan

"I simply explained what our plan is, how it worked. It's been misdescribed by the president and many others, and so we simply described to him precisely what it is we've been proposing so that he hears from us how our proposal works so that in the future he won't mischaracterize it," Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said after meeting with the president this morning.

They said it was going to be phased out and replaced with block grants to the states and annual $8,000 vouchers for anyone under 55.

The Republicans are losing on this issue.

No one wants to end Medicare, except Paul Ryan and his supporters. Then claiming that his plan is being mischaracterized, LOL! What a liar.

Anybody else calling Ryans plan a Voucher Plan?

"Well what's going on is, they're not being honest with the American people," said Cain. "The fact of the matter is, Ryan's plan represents giving people a choice -- but if you're 55 years of age or older, you're not gonna be affected. Nobody's talking about that.

"Secondly, nobody's talking about the fact that the centerpiece of Ryan's plan is a voucher. Now, a lot of people don't like to use that term because it has a negative connotation. That is what we need."

The GOP talking points on the plan have carefully eschewed the word "voucher" in favor of the friendlier "premium assistance" or "premium support." Cain, on the other hand, is apparently ignoring that particular memo.

If they replace it with a voucher system, you're only going to be able to get a voucher for 8,000. If you have serious health issues, you're kinda screwed.

By the way, a hospital stay costs around 1 to 2 thousand dollars per night. You may be able to stay for a week.

And if you're 52 and fall and break a hip? Get out the gun and have someone shoot you, because the new voucher program won't even begin to cover the costs.

Yep

This is the mischaracterization.

Thanks Dumbfvck!

Question...........how is it mischaracterizing it? Over 70 percent of the American people want to keep Medicare as it is, and under 30 percent favor the Ryan plan.

If the GOP keeps harping on this, there's gonna be a Democratic majority in Congress and Obama is going to be President again.

no, it's not.

If you're 55, you keep it.

If you're 54 and younger, or not born yet, it's gone and becomes a voucher program with a low cap on it all the while prices go up. it doesn't address rising cost, it doesn't address the fact that insurance co's could deny insurance to these elderly either.

Read the bill itself, not what the guy who's pimping it says in 34 second videos.

And actually it gets worse!
Ryan's plan will use the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for any annual raises with the voucher system. The CPI uses total inflation, health care insurance has run 4-5 times higher than the annual inflation historically. As the Medicare eligible folks will be going to private insurers they'll see their percentage of their contribution grow annually, so every year they'll be paying more and more for their insurance. Most of these people use Social Security as a major source of their income, for many it's the sole source of their income. Social Security's annual increases are also based on the CPI. With this formula, more and more people will be seriously squezzed financially to the point they won't be able to afford the new Medicare.
Paul Ryan never addresses this and acts like his plan is the best solution but for whom? Not the person who's relying on Medicare. But the health care insurance companies will see a large boom in their business and profits and that's the bottom-line.

Ryan's medicare "plan", more like scheme, was doa. He needs to stop whining about it and get back to the drawing board.

Lets try truth telling.

I think we should be closing some 500 foreign Military bases worldwide, immediate withdrawls from Iraq and Afghanistan, cutting our defense spending by half and use the savings to fund domestic programs, infrastructure spending and space exploration.

You? You want Medicare?
