rightwinger is a person indicative of the angry frustrated Left that has been seeking the goal of a utopian society where government has all the answers. Where government wages war on achievement and success. Where government enacts laws to insure 100% fairness and equality of outcome.

Because when these socialists chime in about how they think capitalism is unfair and how th wealthy have cheated "the people", what they really are refering to is themselves.

Other countries have also been exceptional: Greece, Rome, United Kingdom, China to name a few. Each country, in its own way is exceptional

So what do we do with our designation of "Exceptional"?? Does it reflect that we should be excused from any wrongdoing? Does it mean we no longer need to improve and move forward? Or is it merely a means for rightwingers to tell other countries that we are better than you?

You know........back in the 40's, America was exceptional. We helped out, we worked hard, and we invented and built things HERE. Made in America was a very good selling point.

We held onto that as long as we could though. Back when I graduated HS in '82, I felt that America was the absolute best country in the world, and because of that and patriotism, I joined the military.

During the 80's, this country stepped into places that would have been best left alone. I was forward deployed to a few of those places. Additionally, I saw the view of the world as to how they looked at us start to change over the Reagan years. Yeah, we used to be the best, but then other countries started to get better than us at a lot of stuff.

Matter of fact, I saw a Sega handheld game system over in Dubai 2 years before they made it here to the States. Same for a few other things as well.

Is America exceptional? Well.......we used to be, but it seems that now our leaders are trying to rest on the laurels of days gone by, without trying to see if we can compete with the rest of the world in products. Our labor has been outsourced to India and China, we import stuff FROM those countries that we used to make here ourselves. Why? Because greedy CEO's and the like are more interested in their own bottom line rather than the welfare of the nation.

Yes, we used to be exceptional, only trouble is, we quit trying.

Or you don't. American expectionalism is not the richest people in the world get everything. Expectionalism is where all citizens have the best standard of living. That includes education, healthcare, a good paying job and affordable non-durable goods. We don't have that anymore.

Government can help regulate it, they are not going to create all jobs but all of our jobs are dependent on the government. Think about it:

Small business restaurant owners are able to purchase food at cheaper prices thanks to farm subsides that are able to subsides farmers income which means cheaper food for all.

Small Businesses now don't have to be on the hook for their retired worker's healthcare cost because of Medicare.

Construction companies are able to get jobs by building infrastrure by the government.

And plenty of other examples.

The point is that while government is not the sole employer and will never be, it does facilitate private business for the greater good. Without Government, we become Somolia.

Oh who am I kidding, teabaggers go to Somolia, its a very nice place. None of that stupid government in the way.

Genius...Farm subsidies actually prop up prices. Farm subsidies are offered to farmers to NOT plant certain crops to prevent flooding the market with a particular crop.
Farm subsidies are simply an end around illegal price fixing.
At the end of the day, crop is sold on an open market but the supply is deliberately below production potential. If the supply of certain crops were to be unencumbered the sheer production capability of farms could cause the prices of certain crops to collapse.

I am a farmer. although I have never accepted a dime in federal farm money I know a bit about it as all my farmer buddies talk about it a lot and most of them do accept subsidies.
