"Patriotic millionaires" call for their tax cuts to expire

Fiscal Strength

We are writing to urge you to stand firm against those who would put politics ahead of their country.
For the fiscal health of our nation and the well-being of our fellow citizens, we ask that you allow tax cuts on incomes over $1,000,000 to expire at the end of this year as scheduled.
We make this request as loyal citizens who now or in the past earned an income of $1,000,000 per year or more.
We have done very well over the last several years. Now, during our nation’s moment of need, we are eager to do our fair share. We don’t need more tax cuts, and we understand that cutting our taxes will increase the deficit and the debt burden carried by other taxpayers. The country needs to meet its financial obligations in a just and responsible way.
Letting tax cuts for incomes over $1,000,000 expire, is an important step in that direction.
Sincerely,

Interesting idea they have.

There is nothing stoppng them from making donations to the IRS. They can give an additional 50% of their income to Uncle Obama. Let's see how patriotic they are.

Can you believe they are calling these people, patriotic?

what a figgen joke.

it is a free country....why dont they just pay extra to the government....
They can donate it to Michelle Obama's next vacation.

They are willing to put their money where their mouths are.

But the national deficit will hardly be resolved if 100 people pay a few % more in taxation. So they are appealing that all of the top bracket tax breaks be allowed to expire.

[...]However... I am a firm believer in equal treatment by government... hence my support of a complete and simple flat tax where every person is taxed the exact same % on every dollar earned.... whether you earn 10K or 10MIL.... no exceptions.... and you have the freedom to donate more if you so choose
The flat tax plan you advocate would quickly regress the U.S. Economy to precisely where it was during the Gilded Age, which reflected a wealthy upper class (2%) and a poor lower class (98%). With such a tax policy it wouldn't take long for the bulk of the Nation's resources (wealth) to accumulate under the control of the 2% minority which would exist as a de facto nobility.

When our Constitution was being framed the Founders had no way of anticipating the industrial revolution and the kind of phenomenal wealth that would arise from it. If they did you may rest assured they would have added articles that would prevent the exploitive rise of a super-rich class -- which is in undeniable fact the precise equivalent of the nobility it took a violent Revolution to free us from.

Wealth is controllable power. Excessive wealth is excessive power, which is extremely difficult if not impossible to control.

I was under the impression that "rich people" have many ways to hide their money when taxes are high because they don't need to spend it. More or less, rich people spend/invest less when taxes are high because they can afford to. Tax cuts allow for investments with less loss of capital, making investing more appealing...

Rich people can move.

Raising taxes now is a bad idea.

Cutting spending is the key.

Spending less will lower the deficit faster then raising taxes.

Strange how that works.

According to some here anyone that objects to war and tries to prevent it is a supporter of Al Qaeda, North Viet Nam in the 60s and the Nazis in WWII.

MASSIVE TAX HIKE?
is nothing more than GOP scare tactic rhetoric. Like duct tape and the color terrorist alerts.

Bush cut taxes and for 10 years we had the biggest lost of jobs since the depression that continued into the Obama era.

Letting tax cuts expire is not a "massive tax hike" but taxes will go back to where they were before the Bush tax cut.

Tax cuts will not create jobs, demand create jobs.

Just how does cutting taxes causes job loss?
Most importantly, how does higher taxation cause investment in the economy, development, more retail spending and job creation?

Not 'patriotic', but mere Grandstanding Assholes. If they are stupid enough to want to pay the feds a bit extra no one is stopping them.

Indeed. It's patriotic to advocate for other people's money to be forcibly seized by the government?

As if.

Only 375,000 Americans have incomes of over $1,000,000
