Is completely wrong.

According to cbsnews:

Couric: Have you ever been involved in any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

Palin: We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia. As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there, they are right next to our state.

This is not true. Moscow is located in the extreme Western part of Russia, which is 6700 miles long. If Putin were to "rear his head" and come into the air space of the united States of America, it would likely be to visit Washington for meetings with US Government members or into New York to visit the UN. Putin is based out of Moscow, which is only a few hundred miles from Europe. In fact, Moscow is only 1500 miles from London and about 4500 miles from Moscow to New York. That is equal distance from Moscow to Alaska. If Putin were to visit the United States and fly over Alaska, he would then have to fly an additional 4000 miles or so to travel to new york or washington.

im wondering how often putin flies over alaska.

Never is my bet.

I can't see why someone would fly from Moscow, over siberia to alaska, and then down to New York or DC. It doesn't make a damn bit of sense.

But, then, she's one of those flat-earth, creationist christians. So maybe she doesn't understand global circum-navigation.

You do realize that Alaska is 60 miles from Russia, right?

That's not much farther that Baltimore is from Washington.

You do realize that they share a border?

You understand that if Russia were to ATTACK the United States, they would start with Alaska?

Hence "As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska."

Why do you think there are 3 major Army bases AND 3 major Air Force bases up there in the land of the midnight sun.

More "Total Crap" from the left. :eusa_naughty:

For your consideration, this is from last week:

(RIA Novosti, 25 September 2008) -- VOLZHSKY UTYOS (Samara Region) - The Russian government should take concrete steps to reactivate the country's nuclear icebreaker fleet, the Russian prime minister said Thursday. "We will act calmly in this direction, having in mind another component—a further exploration of the Northern Sea Route. The government, together with state nuclear power corporation Rosatom, should take concrete steps … from the viewpoint of reviving the nuclear icebreaker fleet," Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the ruling United Russia party's regional representatives. The Northern Sea Route is a shipping lane from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean along Russia's Far Eastern and Siberian coasts. The lane is only free of ice for around eight weeks a year. Speaking about Russia's presence in the Arctic, Putin said the country was acting within "current international law." Russia has undertaken two Arctic expeditions—to the Mendeleyev underwater chain in 2005 and to the Lomonosov ridge last summer—to back national claims to the region. Russia earlier said it would submit documentary evidence to the UN of the external boundaries of the Russian Federation's territorial shelf in 2009. Under international law, the five Arctic Circle countries—the U.S., Canada, Denmark, Norway and Russia—each currently have a 322-kilometre (200-mile) economic zone in the Arctic Ocean.

I reckon CBS should have saved some room in their budget for a MAP.

"Palin: We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia."

What trade? Do they sail over for a loaf of bread or some Levi's?
US trade with Russia would be handled at federal not state level.

most states send trade missions to various foreign countries.
edumicate yourself.

Mea culpa.

First, I was trying to make a funny about the loaf of bread. Attempt failed.

Fact: there have been no trade missions from Alaska to Russia since '97... none on Palin's watch.

Fact: foreign trade and trade missions are not interchangeable.

If you don't think Sarah Palin as Governor of the only state in the union that borders two foreign countries, doesn't have to deal with both, you are deluding yourselves.

Do Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California have to deal with Mexico?

Do Washington, North Dakota and Minnasota have to deal with Canada?

So is it shocking that Alaska has to deal with Russia?

Of course not? It's only common sense.

You do realize that Alaska is 60 miles from Russia, right?

Russia is 6700 miles long from West to East. Almost at the tip of Western Russia lies Moscow where Putin is. Eastern Russia, once again about 6600 miles from Moscow, is close to Alaska, yes.

That's not much farther that Baltimore is from Washington. You do realize that they share a border? You understand that if Russia were to ATTACK the United States, they would start with Alaska?

What's your point? Florida is only a few hundred miles from Cuba, does that mean the Mayor of key west has foreign policy experience because he's close to Cuba? Come on!

Alaska hasn't been attacked by Russia. Russia doesn't deal with Anchorage. It deals with Washington DC.

More total crap from the right.

Again - "As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska."

They the Russians, not Putin himself.

And Alaska is 4800 miles from Washington DC and we have 3 major Army bases and 3 major Air Force Bases there. You think Russia doesn't have the same.

What's your point? Florida is only a few hundred miles from Cuba, does that mean the Mayor of key west has foreign policy experience because he's close to Cuba? Come on!

So let me get this straight, you're comparing a country "6700 miles long from West to East" and a population of 140 million that we were involved in a cold war with for 30 years and still has hundreds of nuclear tipped ICBM and was just involved in a shooting war with a bordering country last month with a island nation 670 miles long with a population of 11 million that can barely feed itself and we have a military base on?

Is this is the level of rational of your arguements?

Wow, her numbers weren't just a little wrong, they were REALLY wrong.

I think McCain is going to dump Palin and pick up Miss Teen South Carolina.

She's better at geography.

They are separated by a water border.

California is separated by a water border from Russia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, hell just about everything in those longitudes.

It's a silly argument. Hawaii, being so isolated, and having been attacked once, would make a better argument. But it is still a silly argument, given the types of threats are changing to suitcase bombs and whatnot, and are less concerned with geography as they used to be.

Once again "As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska."

They being the Russians, not Putin.

.

Ya and they also go to Hawaii, California, Oregon, and Washington, and Israel.
