Palin, have a tort, Obama

I don't want a socialist Utopia. [it would be nice, because a Utopia is nice.....so yeah, if it were possible]. What I don't want is patent monopolies that kill the production of good basic stuff that works.

I am against genetically modified food as well. I have not seen a honey bee in two years.
you eliminate that, you remove the ability to expand R&D
you essentially drive the drug companies out of business

Interesting article.

That rebranding crap is a big pet peeve of mine. That should definitely be banned.

Remember when Zyban was all the rage for smoking cessation? That's freakin' wellbutrin. An antidepressant that's been around since the '60's. But because it was rebranded for smokers, they were charging out the butt for what you could get generic for next to nothing.

And that new med being advertised for rosacea? Oracea? Damn doxycycline, another one that's been around since the 60's. But you can't get away with charging $300 a month for generic 50mg doxy.

Check out the difference in the price:

Oracea - drugstore.com. Low prices, side effects, interactions.

Doxycycline Monohydrate - drugstore.com. Low prices, side effects, interactions.

That shit pisses me off to no end.

oh, when did it happen that there was only ONE drug company?
so, how are you on the monopoly of the music industry
or are you only against intellectual property rights when it comes to drug companies

Bull. I posted a link that proves that's not true.

where?

There's plenty of drug companies, but only one holds a patent on any given drug. The unpatented drugs are called generics. If I have a patent on "nosenseatall" I'm the only one who can make it and sell it. You can't. You can sell some other drug that might have similar efficacy, but not mine.

From Link:

CAM reported total promotion spending by the U.S. pharmaceutical industry as US$33.5 billion in their 2004 report, while IMS reported US$27.7 billion for the same year. The authors observed, however, important differences in figures according to each promotion category. By selectively using both sets of figures provided by IMS and CAM, in order to determine the most relevant data for each category, and adjusting for methodological differences between the ways IMS and CAM collect data, the authors arrived at US$57.5 billion for the total amount spent on pharmaceutical promotion in 2004. The industry spent approximately US$61,000 in promotion per physician during 2004, according to Gagnon.

“Even our revised promotion figure for 2004 is apt to be understated, as there are other promotion avenues that are not likely to be taken into consideration by IMS or CAM, such as ghost-writing and off-label promotion,” says Gagnon. “Also, seeding trials, which are designed to promote the prescription of new drugs, may be allocated to other budget categories.”

How can they? I'd have to go to the doctor and bug him about it. I can't outright buy them.

I would be the kind of person to research what drugs were anyway before I got all excited about a new drug. I am the type of person that reads inserts and PDRs......and finds out that 800mg of Ibuprophen is a Motrin for instance.

I'd rather not have to take any drugs at all but if I have to, I get militant about the info.

good, be militant about what you put in your body
and for most things, you can get a generic and most insurance requires you to use the generic first, and that includes medicare and medicaid
and only when the generics dont work do you get to use the name brands
but the copays are higher

I guess it works on some level, name recognition or something. I don't believe in all the prozac related drugs at all, but they sell like hotcakes so the doctors must aid in the sale. They give drugs cute catchy names like ambien......AM bien, get it? Cialis....See Alice.......
though I have never figured out what the bathtubs imagery is about.........:doubt:

me either
and especially outside

and you realize that ads help sell drugs?
right?

Like she said, this isn't something we can just pick up off the shelf. They have to be prescribed.
and if the ads didnt sell, do you think they would still do it?

LOL

Of course it works, but what does that have to do with anything? That doesn't change the fact that they're available only by prescription. And that all of this ridiculous useless marketing significantly adds to the cost.

I see it in my job; patients will tell me what they want---by name. And they get pissed when the docs don't order it. Doesn't matter that it's not the right med for what ails them, or that a generic works just as well. Our hospital generally uses generic meds. That really aggravates some folks. God forbid they have to pay less for their medication. For the life of me, I'll never understand why people will argue against something that is obviously in their best interest.

That video I posted is closer to the truth than you know.

Yeah. What the hell is up with THAT???

Two clawfoot tubs, out in the middle of a field. And of course I gotta wonder... How did they get water in the tubs? IS there water in the tubs? If not, that's gotta be awfully cold and uncomfortable.

If a guy ever drug me out into the wilderness to sit in a damn tub, you can bet your ass he won't get any.

so, if they didnt work, drug companies wouldnt do then
and they tell in the ads to consult with your medical professional
and if they want to pay extra for that drug, let em
