The Palestine Football Association has asked UEFA to bar Israel from hosting the 2013 European Under-21 Championship over its detention without trial of Palestinian players.

In a letter addressed to UEFA President Michel Platini, PFA President Jibril Rajoub expressed concern over the fate of three players -- Palestine midfielder Mahmud Sarsak, Olympic squad goalkeeper Omar Abu Rois and Ramallah player Mohammed Nimr, all of whom are being held by Israel without charge.

The Palestinians have a good point. If Israel is going to kidnap their players, why should they be allowed to hold the event.

No one should be detained without charge, of course, anywhere in the world.

However, it would be interesting to know if they will be charged, and with what. If they are going to be charged with a serious crime, then the Palestinian FA might be best to ditch them anyway.

If Israel can't trump up enough to send them to their kangaroo court they really do not need to be detained.

There are people who have spent years in prison without charge. What's up with that?
