The elections in the U.S. are having problems but not quite as dangerous as in the Palestinian Territories. People there are taking their lives into their own hands, depending upon their voting choices.

Hamas: Vote for Us or Burn in Hell

  • Abbas decided to hold local and municipal elections because his advisors convinced him that Hamas would boycott the vote, according to senior Fatah official Husam Khader.

  • The first sign of Hamas's frightening platform emerged when one of its top muftis, Yunis Al-Astal, issued a fatwa banning Palestinians from voting for any other party other than Hamas. "Any person, male or female, who votes for a party other than Hamas will be considered an infidel and apostate and his or her repentance will not be accepted even if they fasted or prayed or performed the hajj [pilgrimage] to Mecca," the mufti ruled.

  • This Hamas tactic has worked in the past. In the previous parliamentary election, Hamas used the same propaganda to brainwash and scare Palestinian voters.

  • By calling the election and allowing Hamas to participate, Abbas is digging his own grave, and presiding over the burial of any so-called peace process with Israel.

The only thing we can say for sure about the Middle East is that there is no end in sight to Arab-Muslim antipathy towards anybody or anything that does not strictly follow the path they demand is the only way. Which means constant war no interest in peace.

Now Obama and the U.N. can continue pretending if only Israel would do as they insist then there would be peace in the land.

They voted for Fatah. Hamas won by default because they had one hamas candidate for, in some cases, 6 Fatah, by the skin of their nose in most districts they won. A few districts they were the only candidate.
The vast majority of votes were for Fatah though.
Hamas was surprised they won and have been unwilling to allow another vote.
Not like primaries here that end up with one candidate per party.

This is a good article on the 2006 elections, thanks.

The election results stunned U.S. and Israeli officials, who have repeatedly stated that they would not work with a Palestinian Authority that included Hamas...

And Hamas does not like the assholes elected in the US and Israel either. So the feelings are mutual.

How clever of those Arab-Moslems to elect an Islamic terrorist franchise that has systematically stolen from them, oppressed them and caused the deaths of thousands of those Arabs-Moslems who elected them.

I've always thought that applying the label of "government" to Hamas was a bit of a bad joke. Term such as democracy and representative elections, like other words thrown around carelessly, can sometimes lose all resemblance to their original, intrinsic meaning. Nowhere is this more evident than in the abnormal of the Arab/Islamic world where armed terrorists are allowed to roam the streets, genocidal jihad groups participate in governance, bearded islamo-loons holding to a 7th century worldview win the electoral process and "elections" are made into a total mockery.

Social media becomes electoral war zone for Hamas, Fatah
Eleven years have passed since the Palestinians headed to the polling stations, and it seems today that the eagerness for the local council elections slated for Oct. 8 pushed numerous civilian enthusiasts to launch early electoral campaigns.

While the official campaign period for Palestinian local council elections doesn't begin until Sept. 24, Hamas supporters have already launched several social media initiatives aimed at drumming up support.

These elections are different from the last elections in 2006, as social media is now used for early campaigning and is mirroring the state of polarization between Hamas and Fatah.

This appears clearly through the posts of social media users close to Hamas via media campaigns under hashtags allocated to support the movement — #Ready and #Before&After, as well as #GazaMoreBeautiful.

These hashtags were also used by Fatah supporters and anti-Hamas activists to express their own opinions.

Fatah said to beg Abbas: Cancel local elections, Hamas will win West Bank

Officials in Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party have reportedly called on him to cancel upcoming municipal elections in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, fearing that rival jihadist group Hamas will secure an overwhelming victory.

...

Fatah and Hamas are locked in a high-stakes struggle ahead of the October 8 vote. Abbas’s Fatah movement currently holds power in the West Bank, where he heads the Palestinian Authority, while Hamas has ruled Gaza since it ousted Fatah in a bloody 2007 coup. A year earlier, in elections for the Palestinian parliament, Hamas won 74 of 132 seats, and Fatah just 45.

Well, yeah, the stakes are high. The "elections" are all about control of the billions of dollars in welfare money that brings fabulous wealth to the Islamic terrorists who are able to manipulate the money spigot.

Then there's some people who don't want elections. They should make up their feeble minds.

A radical Islamic Palestinian Arab organization on Sunday issued a statement expressing opposition to the upcoming local elections slated for the Palestinian Authority (PA)-assigned areas of Judea and Samaria and in Gaza.

The organization argued in its statement that democracy was created by the West as a means to subjugate people, especially Muslims, and that the Palestinian Authority was established to serve the western-Zionist-Crusader enterprise in Muslim countries and particularly in “Palestine”.

In fact, the organization claimed, the PA plays the role of the military governor of the “occupation” – that is, Israel – in Judea, Samaria and Gaza.
