A Pakistani mob has taken a man accused of blasphemy from a police station and burnt him to death, police say.

The man was being held for allegedly burning a copy of the Koran in public. The incident took place on the outskirts of Bahawalpur, in Punjab province.

Witnesses said hundreds of people looked on as he screamed for help.

Pakistan's controversial blasphemy law imposes the death penalty for insulting Islam, but it is rarely carried out.

The area where the lynching took place is home to hundreds of madrassas - religious schools - run by radical Islamist or sectarian groups.

Thomas Moore burned 6 people to death for blasphemy and the Catholic Church made him a Saint.

You would use Moore's actions to excuse this immolation?

He's still a Saint, actually. What more endorsement of his actions by the present day Church do you need other than their consideration of him as a Saint?

He is a Saint because he chose martyrdom over submitting his conscience to the king's whims.

But the real point here of course is that people like you can't bring themselves to recognize the barbarous and extreme intolerance of Muslim fundamentalists, which finds no equal in any other major religion.

How ironic, considering he himself made martyrs out of 6 protestants who refused to submit their conscience to the Pope's wishes. You might say he had it coming. Though it wasn't quite fair, considering Moore was beheaded - a relatively painless death compared to being burned alive - the fate of Moore's victims. The fact that the Church regards this man as a Saint today is tacit endorsement of his persecution of protestants.

YOU don't recognize the barbarous and extreme intolerance of Muslim fundamentalists

Welcome to the 13th century. Parts of the Muslim world are still in the Dark Ages.

If I had shot that piece-of-shit Travyon in self-defense, I might be facing the death penalty, not for defending myself, but for calling him a piece-of-shit cold before a pulled the trigger. Blasphemy against Political Correctness in the US can result in the state killing me. It result in prison time for thousands of Americans every year. At least in Pakistan, it was just vigilantes, and not the state, behind this.
