OWS Wants the End of Capitalism?

Has anybody thought about this....

We reform everything....sort of "spread the wealth".....the wealthiest get to keep less than they did....the poorest get more than they had...the middle class expands...and all have more money...

What will hapopen to prices?

All I can say is....be careful what you wish for. IN the end, prices will go up, the welthiest will still be making a lot more money, the poor will still be struggling and the middle class will have more money, but need to spend more money...and have a net change of 0.

SO the only alternative will be to NOT allow prices to rise.

Now...who wants a government that can control that?

The free market will take care of any business that jacks prices through the roof. They wont be in business :eusa_shhh:

really?

do you have any idea how pure competition works?

If what you say is correct, then why are prices higher now than they were...say....30 years ago?

If you disagree with my statement at least say why and stop playing 50 questions

I agree.

We should make sure the wealthy gets an even bigger slice of the pie so that prices can come down.

It's the only way.

Finance capitalism currently functions like a casino where high stakes bets on exotic debt instruments payoff big for winners, and losers, beyond a certain threshold, are made whole by the US taxpayers. Why would elite Republicans OR Democrats want to change that?

"It is also a fact that Wall Street is a major source of campaign financing for both parties. At present, Wall Street donors are giving heavily to Romney—a money man by trade who once headed Bain Capital.

"In July, however, the Center for Responsive Politics reported that of the $35 million that had been collected this year by Obama’s top-tier fundraisers, one-third came from the financial industry. Apparently, animosity is no match for self-interest.

"By calling attention to this unholy alliance of financial power and political power, the Occupy Wall Street protests struck a nerve. The Republican Party is trapped on the wrong side of this issue. Democrats should be moving boldly, not timidly, to claim the issue of economic justice as their own."

prices do not simply spike in a pure competition environment.

Assuming it is not an oligopoly which has different factors involved........

the consumer is continually tested. Company A will increease its price by 2% and see how the consumer reacts. Company B ses no negative reaction and he increases it by another 2%...company A sees no reaction so he equals the price of company B and in a matter of 2weeks the price is up 4% and the consumer doesnt even know it.

In an oligopoly, the anchor companies simply increase their prices and market and adevertise like hell.....and the sub companies follow with their tails between their legs.

Bottom line is this...

Spread the wealth all you want.....go for it. I have no isse with it....but in short order, the riuch will still be mega rich, the middle class will have nothing mnore than it does now and the poor will still be struggling.

Spread the wealth will only work if government takes over all pricing......and I dont think any of us want that.

well overall, if obama wins 2012, you can pretty much expect some kind of mass exodus, not just the rich, even those who's life and well being would be in dire straights with another four years of a dictatorship forcing health-care and more taxes and 4.00 gas. just like what's been happening in cally over the last 10 or so years, but in their case, they moved further east and south.

Dictatorship? The constitutional, electoral process was followed, and the representatives of We the People passed legislation, and the President signed it.

Get on board. This is the American process: you win some, you lose some, and you fight harder the next time. You don't call the process dictatorial and expect any respect for your thinking ability.

Finance capitalism ........unholy alliance of financial power and political power

Interesting.

You recognize that there is an UNHOLY ALLIANCE OF FINANCIAL AND POLITICAL POWERS yet you refer to it as "capitalism".

I remind you, again, that in a capitalistic system there are no UNHOLY ALLIANCES OF FINANCIAL AND POLITICAL POWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ture...dictatorial is not the appropriate word.

However, the law was passed in an untraditional way and without the standard amount of votes traditionally required.

Normally, such an action would go under the radar and rightfully so...however, this one was going to affect a large chunk of the US economy like no other legislation in history and included a major provision that was so "shaky" as it pertained to the coinsitutuion that here we are 2 years later and 2 out of 4 courts deemed it unconstitutional.

You see...the problem is, our party memebers are so wrapped up in party that they will spin and twist whatever the other party says in an effort to "get their way"..and the people fall for it and actually get involved in "party fights"...

And the result? A party domination where something like healthcare can happen (for good or bad)...

You see, I would be just as much against a super majority of GOP....for such a government will only cater to the wants of half the people.

So no...not a dictatorship....but as I see it...gaming the game for total control and power....and total control and power is a good definition of a dictatorship.

Yes.

Constitutionally passsed.

Tax mandate may be unconstitutional, easily remedied. The rest of the law will stand.

Yes.

Yes, the American way.

Wrong.

No "total control and power": not possible.

B.S. A mass exodus of rich and the poor?? That's ridiculous.

NATO was in charge, not the US. Nothing bigrebnc can post will officially say what he wants. No.

pretending Americans hate the free market is just brain dead partisan hackery.

I expect to see lots of it in the future from the right.

Damn, even when what you say is true you manage to make it a lie. You hate the free market, and do not care what anyone else thinks.

We the People, as we watch businesses take money for less than stellar services or otherwise fail to protect the public interest, have every right for regulated competition and safety standards. Modern capitalism requires such.

I don't know about the people you hang out with, but the people I hang out with do not give money to companies that deliver less than stellar services or otherwise fail to protect our interests. The only group we do give our money to that acts like that is the government, and that is only because the government has the power to forcibly take our money regardless of how efficient or responsible it is.

I don't think expecting the government to regulate the abuses of capitalism is asking too much.

Really?

We paid the government good money to regulate Fannie and Freddie and they gave us reason to believe they were doing it. When, in fact, they werent.

So why do you trust them to do it with industry as a whole?

Nope...as I see it....only one group can regulate the abuses of capitaslism. The people. You dont lkike what a company is doing? Dont buy their products.

Pretty simple if you ask me.

Which is why I wouldn't ask YOU. Freddy and Fanny were doing fine until they were forced to pick up much of the bad debt from the savings and loan debacle. But you wouldn't know that because it wouldn't have come up on Fox News. It would take too much of my time to bring you up to speed on this topic but if you are remotely trying to bring an honest argument...try doing some research.

What have you been smoking?

This is true Karma!! End Capitalism, sure.....what are you going to do without your cameras, iphones and laptops?? I think you're getting ready to find out.

Occupy Wall Street protesters said yesterday that packs of brazen crooks within their ranks have been robbing their fellow demonstrators blind, making off with pricey cameras, phones and laptops -- and even a hefty bundle of donated cash and food.

“Stealing is our biggest problem at the moment,” said Nan Terrie, 18, a kitchen and legal-team volunteer from Fort Lauderdale.

“I had my Mac stolen -- that was like $5,500. Every night, something else is gone. Last night, our entire [kitchen] budget for the day was stolen, so the first thing I had to do was . . . get the message out to our supporters that we needed food!”

Crafty cat burglars sneaked into the makeshift kitchen at Zuccotti Park overnight and swiped as much as $2,500 in donated greenbacks from right under the noses of volunteers who’d fallen asleep after a long day whipping up meals for the hundreds of hungry protesters, the volunteers said.

“The worst thing is there’s people sleeping in the kitchen when they come, and they don’t even know about it! There are some really smart and sneaky thieves here,” Terrie said.

“I had umbrellas stolen, a fold-up bed I brought because my back is bad -- they took that, too!”

Security volunteer Harry Wyman, 22, of Brooklyn was furious about the thievery -- and vowed to get tough with the predatory perps.

what you thought there were no thieves in this world?

OWS is NOT about killing capitalism.

That is a idiot right wing talking point.

They have to pretend the American people want to distroy capitalism so their arguement doesnt look like a greed grab from the 1%.

I wish their minions like you would not buy their lies at every turn

About 53% of the people out there protesting think it is.

The Flea Baggers want one thing and one thing only- other people's money. That's it. They want free shit - and they want to take a shit in the park. Why is that so wrong?
