Taxes Prompt More Americans to Renounce Citizenship

"'Truth, justice, and the American way' — it's not enough anymore," the comic book superhero said, after both the Iranian and American governments criticized him for joining a peaceful anti-government protest in Tehran (Comic book).

Last year, almost 1,800 people followed Superman's lead, renouncing their U.S. citizenship or handing in their Green Cards. That's a record number since the Internal Revenue Service began publishing a list of those who renounced in 1998. It's also almost eight times more than the number of citizens who renounced in 2008, and more than the total for 2007, 2008 and 2009 combined.

But not everyone's motivations are as lofty as Superman's. Many say they parted ways with America for tax reasons.

In return, the US government has introduced a bill that will revoke (per IRS request) a citizens ability to travel abroad if they are accused of owing back taxes. Not found guilty, just accused.

The bill passed the Senate and is called ‘Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act’

The ‘Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act’ if signed into law, will be yet another violation of the Constitution (Article I, Section 9, paragraph 3 - which forbids “Bills of Attainder”, which are laws providing for the punishment of an individual without benefit of judicial process) by our beloved Federal Government.

The outcry from the people on losing freedoms?
The news being broadcast by our media?
Neither...the people and the media are bought and paid for with government handouts and agenda...respectively.

This is not a Democrat or a Republican thing (both are one and the same anyhow) this is an overbearing government thing from a government that is out of control with its power hungriness.

When are the people going to stop bickering among themselves over stupid crap and put a stop to this governmental abuse of power? Oh, I forgot...you all are too distracted with Obama's vacations and Romney's stay at home wife to worry about stuff like this.

If you don't pay legally owed taxes, are you not breaking the law? Foes that not make you a criminal?

What greater "risk of flight" is there than a person with great means leaving the country?

Tax cuts for the wealthiest five percent of Americans cost the U.S. Treasury $11.6 million every hour, according to the National Priorities Project. Between 2001 and the current projected end of the Bush tax cut extension, tax cuts for the wealthiest 5 percent will cost the U.S. Treasury $1.184 trillion. If extended through 2021 as gop lawmakers propose, the total cost will exceed $3.2 trillion.

Government spending as a percentage of GDP is the same now as when Reagan was in office....23%. But since the financial crisis in 2008, revenues as a share of GDP have hit 60-year lows, coming in at around 15%. And yet the Republicans signed the Grover Norquist "tax pledge" not to raise taxes.

Grover Norquist is the man who is destroying America.

From your link, it was not over taxation, but severe difficulties in filing taxes from abroad. And 1,800 people per year is nothing to be concerned over.

.0005 percent of Americans have renounced their citizenship! Stop the presses!

They arent talking about people found guilty, just people they think may owe taxes.

And if a person does owe taxes, that gives the government the right to violate the Constitution?

only .0005% and not all of them have done so for taxation purposes.

And the government is in enough of a power hungry fear mode over it that they are passing laws violating the Constitution to stop it. Sad isnt it.

To me its not the people leaving that is the issue, the issue is its that with such a small percentage of people leaving, our government is reacting by trying to pass unconstitutional laws to stop those who are only suspected of owing taxes. Not those that have been found guilty of such....I could understand it if they were pulling passports of those who have had their day in court and been found guilty of violating the law or those who are going through the court process. At that point, the government would not be violating the Constitution.

Bullshit. It's a breeze to file from abroad if you hire a REAL accountant experienced in internationalists.
The reason they renounce is that the country is a fucking piece of shit that gives Americans(murkins) absolutely nothing for their tax dollars. Used to. Once JFK was gone, the party was on. Sorry. You weren't invited.

What does any of your posts have to do with our government violating the Constitution?

And it does not "cost" the treasury a single penny...the money is NOT theirs to start with.

The more that is coming to light about the ‘Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act’ the more there is for concern.

Mandatory Black Boxes In All New Cars From 2015

A bill already passed by the Senate and set to be rubber stamped by the House would make it mandatory for all new cars in the United States to be fitted with black box data recorders from 2015 onwards.
Section 31406 of Senate Bill 1813 (known as MAP-21), calls for “Mandatory Event Data Recorders” to be installed in all new automobiles and legislates for civil penalties to be imposed against individuals for failing to do so.
“Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall revise part 563 of title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, to require, beginning with model year 2015, that new passenger motor vehicles sold in the United States be equipped with an event data recorder that meets the requirements under that part,” states the bill.
Although the text of legislation states that such data would remain the property of the owner of the vehicle, the government would have the power to access it in a number of circumstances, including by court order, if the owner consents to make it available, and pursuant to an investigation or inspection conducted by the Secretary of Transportation.
Given the innumerable examples of both government and industry illegally using supposedly privacy-protected information to spy on individuals, this represents the slippery slope to total Big Brother surveillance of every American’s transport habits and location data.
The legislation, which has been given the Orwellian title ‘Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act’, sailed through the Senate after being heavily promoted by Democrats Harry Reid and Barbara Boxer and is also expected to pass the Republican-controlled House.
