There isnā€™t much you can say about the sad fact that the media in the US has probably distorted the public perception of reality to a degree where about half the population is so ideologically contaminated and cerebrally confused that making sense of the world is a rare event. Itā€™s an unfortunate state of affairs that the fourth estate in America has deteriorated into a creepy multitude of useful idiots that should be handing out bags of food at fast-food restaurants. Instead they collect paychecks from the NY Times, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS and NBC to deliver what is basically partisan lockstep and bedridden propaganda. No creativity, no originality and no redeeming social purpose other than to push a failed philosophy and keep the people fooled.

The press in America has largely been absorbed by the same dark hand that dealt us the War on Poverty and the Great society which has bestowed on our culture the notion that government reigns supreme in the affairs of citizens. Of course this runs counter to what most people define as American Exceptionalism and a constitution that warns against a government that can become too powerful. We have a press in America today that has become commandeered by a paradigm called ā€œpolitical correctnessā€-a tool used to push a one-sided creed that suggests any other thinking is wrongheaded. You know, ā€œa yardstick for lunatics, one point of viewā€-Strawberry Alarm Clock 1967.

As the arrow of time advances into the future, technology follows and new paradigms emerge. Mass media find themselves less relevant and like the Luddites they protest because their time is ending. Our president is very smart and he is way ahead of the media. When the media attack him in the old way he just goes to the Twitterverse and attacks them in the new way. Itā€™s funny to watch the media luddites as they launch into unhinged fits of desperation. The American press no longer fits in the contemporary technological landscape. They are the broken toys of the information age soon to be discarded.

It seems almost unfair as our president brushes them aside like yesterdayā€™s trash. Maybe if they had demonstrated some hard work instead of just dumbing down the public and acting as a public relations outfit for the failed doctrine of liberalism we could forgive them. But alas, sometimes that trash just has to go.

nice thread... this describes the situation well. where do you suppose it's heading? the media is the way it is, because of competition in a saturated but private market, which i like (except for pbs, which i don't).

like the music biz, the cream rises to the top. the music industry went through this years ago.
