The al-Qa'ida leader Osama bin Laden called for jihad (holy struggle) over the Israeli offensive in Gaza in a new audio tape that appeared on Islamist websites today.

The Saudi-born militant said the global financial crisis had exposed the waning US influence in world affairs and would in turn weaken its ally Israel.

"Our brothers in Palestine, you have suffered a lot.... the Muslims sympathise with you in what they see and hear. We, the mujahideen, sympathise with you also..." bin Laden said in the tape entitled 'A Call for Jihad to Stop the Aggression against Gaza'.

"We are with you and we will not let you down. Our fate is tied to yours in fighting the Crusader-Zionist coalition, in fighting until victory or martyrdom."

The Palestinian death toll from a 19-day-old Israeli offensive to crush the Islamist Hamas movement in Gaza has risen to 971, causing widespread anger among ordinary Arabs and Muslims. Israel says 13 Israelis have been killed by rockets or mortars from Gaza.

In the 22-minute tape, bin Laden said that the United States was losing its dominant position in the world and that this was due to al-Qa'ida's campaign.

"The jihad of your sons against the Crusader-Zionist coalition is one of the key reasons for these destructive effects among our enemies," bin Laden said in the tape that was dated in the current Islamic month.

"God has bestowed us with the patience to continue the path of jihad for another seven years, and seven and seven... The question is, can America continue its war with us for several more decades to come? Reports and evidence would suggest otherwise."

The authenticity of the tape, produced by al-Qa'ida's media arm As-Sahab, could not immediately be verified but the voice sounded like that of bin Laden.

Bin Laden last appeared in an audio tape in May and also focused on Gaza, calling on Muslims to try to help end the blockade of the area.

The al-Qa'ida leader has placed growing emphasis on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in recent years and Wednesday's audio tape was accompanied by a still of bin Laden and a picture of al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, Islam's third holiest shrine.

He's dead. So there's one of two possibilities:

1.) They got someone who sounds almost exactly like him.

2.) They have audio tapes that he left before his death. Things like the New President is in big trouble, and a Jihad against Israel is nothing that couldn't of been planned beforehand.

Benazir Bhutto mentioned him as being murdered.
Past videos of him were a joke, it didn't look like him. He's a dead nemesis perpetuated by the US government IMO.

Hamas and al Qaeda: two peas from the same pod.

No, they didn't

If you compare the statements from al Qaeda to the Hamas Covenant, it is clear their objectives and ideologies are almost identical. Both state that their goal is the restoration of the Caliphate which they claim was given to Islam by Allah and their immediate objectives are merely steps towards that end. Both state that anyone, not just "Crusaders" and "Zionists", but also Muslims who oppose their quest is an enemy and must be conquered or destroyed.

Ironically, their goals and ideology are exactly what they claim are the goals and ideology of "Zionists" if you just substitute Judaism and Kingdom of David for Islam and the Caliphate. That is to say, al Qaeda and Hamas are what they claim to hate.

a audio tape ..what is his video camera broken...bin ladens dead,,all -CIA--duh makes these tapes...

Was 9/11 an example of this lack of imagination?

Absolutely. 9/11 caused the fall of the Taliban government in Afghanistan and mobilized governments formerly sympathetic to the goals and ideology of al Qaeda, such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Malaysia and Indonesia against al Qaeda and its affiliates and most of the world against and form of Islamic militarism or ideological extremism. If it had not been for 9/11, Israel would not have felt confident that the US would allow it to reoccupy the West Bank.

Sunni, are you under observation...because you should be. Has anyone reported him yet?
Report me for what?

I am a loyal and patriotic American citizen and a Vietnam War Vet.

I vote, pay taxes, and am involved in the politics of my community.

Really Ravi, someone should report you for just being an idiot!!

The Israeli Mossad (their CIA) created Hamas just like the CIA Created Al-Qaeda. CIA-Mossad, 2 peas in the same pod.

There is no more evidence that the Mossad created Hamas or that the CIA created al Qaeda than there is that you created them.

Certainly not in the MSM. But you can find it else where. "Israel’s secret service, Shin Bet, quietly subsidized Hamas for years, deliberately creating a future competitor for Fatah.
The Israeli Mossad (their CIA) created Hamas in 1987, with the frontmen Sheikh Ahmed Ismail Yassin and Abdel Aziz al-Rantissi, because, as Zeev Sternell, historian at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, says: “Israel thought that it was a smart ploy to push the Islamists against the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO).”

The US/CIA created Al Qaeda which was a spin off from the Muhajardeen during the Soviet-Afghan war.

Yet again, there is no evidence that the Mossad created Hamas or that the CIA created al Qaeda. Finding propaganda sites that make those claims does not constitute evidence. Saying that Israel was happy to see Fatah have some competition is a long way from saying that Israel created Hamas, and saying that al Qaeda "was a spin off from the Muhajardeen" is saying you have no idea how al Qaeda was formed.
