It's fine if the millennials want to change the social standards, but that's "going forward" from this point, you can't go back into the past, during a time when many of these accusations were /not/ considered socially unacceptable and then claim it was assault. You cannot hold the past to modern standards, it's dishonest and unfair.

I was there at the time. No woman ever found this conduct acceptable. There was just no where to go and no one to report it to. The guys around us, who were are friends, tried their darnest to protect us. On a ski trip with a mixed group of friends, when we stayed a ski lodge in Maine where the bathrooms were down the hall, I had to be escorted every time I went to the bathroom by a guy in my group, after being body-slammed against a wall by a guy across the hall who rammed his tongue down my throat. I'm so happy that these assaults are now coming to light.
There were supposed to be "standards" at that time as well, but there apparently were no "standards." Let's use "me, too," which extends to far more countries than the U.S., to establish some G.D. "standards."

mmhmm sure, pick out an obvious case of sexual assault and ignore the reality that some 30+% of Millennials believe that asking a woman out for drinks is sexual harassment, that lightly touching a woman on her upper arm is sexual assault, that telling a girl her hair looks nice today is sexual harassment. The Millennials are pushing for an entirely new realm of socially acceptable interactions between men and women - they've gone too damn far IMHO, but whatever it's their lonely single lives when they get what they want out of abusing this metoo thing.

Sorry to hear you were the "recipient of disrespectful behavior," whatever that might be, but I would hope that even you might understand that what is going on here is an attempted forced reversal of the roles. Men are supposed to pursue women, show interest, make a pass, that is the nature of a guy for the past 40,000 years or 10 million years---- there are 10,000 precedents in animal nature, but thanks to the present insane movement, spurred on the excuse of a few guys like Weinstein, some opportunistic women are trying to change it now to where doing any of that carries the risk of not simply having your advances rejected, but having your life totally ruined! To where some women with any degree of emotional immaturity might now claim "inappropriate behavior" simply by a guy complimenting a woman's dress, hair, perfume, or figure. Or through innocent flirting, friendship and normal camaraderie between the sexes. Maybe after 20 years of marriage if the wife decides she wants to move on, or simply wants to ruin the guy's life and take all his property, all she needs to do now is say that he made "an inappropriate advance." But this will all eventually change when sooner or later, someone fights back and proves the woman was a liar, and sues for damages to an employer who terminates a man's career and throws him under a bus like so much trash just because some lady made a complaint with no foundation to back it up.

A crime must be DEFINED, it cannot be whatever you say it is or WISH it to be, changing upon whim, from person to person and from time to time. And if someone commits criminal behavior, that needs defined not only for legal reasons, but social as well. And of course, this opens up eventual cases where WOMEN will be accused of inappropriate behavior and they will be fired and treated the same or there will be lawsuits.

But this won't fix a thing, instead, it will simply impose a new, terrible burden on society that now every action, every meeting, every passing comment between men and women is subject to tension, scrutiny, inhibition, or it might result in threats, firing, public humiliation, castration, and not today, not next week, but maybe a year from now, or maybe 10, 20 or 40 years from now! That is the definition of INSANITY. You might become a public figure only to find that women who claim events half a lifetime ago, too far back to even be certain you ever even met these people, now seek to extort you, ruin your career and public image.

You see, I'm not defending bad behavior and without a doubt, there have been guys (and women) who have crossed the line, but it is one thing to really do bad (intimidate, harass, threaten, exploit) and be punished accordingly, and another for a guy's innocent and well-intended actions to be misinterpreted, and even if the misunderstanding straightened out, there be a "zero tolerance, no excuses, no second-chances" policy that the man be mandatorily fired, publicly ostracized, like a piece of trash. That makes all women / female interactions potential land-mines where you never know what risk you are taking in every innocent, everyday dealing. That is putting ABSOLUTE POWER in the hands of women, not just for the instances where it was really called for, but ANYTIME any woman wants to exploit it. And we all know what absolute power does to people.

Worse, it imposes an impossible standard on the world-------- you see, the world IS NOT A NICE PLACE, it is cutthroat and dirty, and does not have time for every woman who first says she wants to join the workplace as an equal and participate in all affairs high and low, then can't deal with it. It is up to you women to fit into the world if you want to be there, not expect the world to change to suit you because the world doesn't have the time or patience to address every hurt feeling, every bruised ego, or every jaded relationship. It might pretend for a while that it does, but sooner or later, the REAL, legitimate grievances must be separated from the bullshit ones and dealt with sanely, fairly, if the world is to survive, work and continue to move on.

You can never go wrong by abiding with standards of behavior. I will never forget walking to work from the subway, and having to pass a construction sight every day on my walk in downtown D.C. A construction worker approached me, and I though "oh, here it comes." He ended up being one of the most polite human beings I ever met. I remember sitting next to a woman who worked on the site, and she assured me that he was a really decent fellow, and while interested, he never, ever got out of line and was respectful at all times. Men have for thousands of years approached women with respect and dignity.
Incidentally, the world belongs to all of us, not just one sex. It is a matter of heterosexuals attempting to create a satisfactory world together. This is not, emphatically not, any attempt to disparate LGBTs.

THIS IS NOT NEWS. I should hope that anyone wishing to start a meaningful relationship should start out that way. But then, a lot of relationships are never intended as being meaningful, relationships happen for a whole range of reasons. What this is about is handling the accusation of bad behavior in an appropriate way, seeking the shortest path to the best resolution, not always automatically litigiously, not blindly believing, much less acting on every accusation on the mere face of it; there being a logical process to distill the truth rather than call a guy into HR, say there's been a complaint and hand him a termination notice. If people deserve respect then that respect is owed on BOTH sides. Even convicted criminals with a past history of behavior are not ruled on by it but rather the facts in the present.

I saw such a wonderful video of heterosexuals several years ago about a heterosexual couple who has created a pregnancy between them. The pregnancy was created in the female's body according to human biology. When the time came for the baby to emerge from the female partner's body, the father and mother entered a bath so the birth could take place under water. The male partner entered the water and positioned himself so that his female partner could position herself lying against himself and he could comfort her for what was coming with their baby coming along in the birth path out of her body. Ultimately, a family emerges from the water.
this is an example of a "man" being "solid,"being a 'man,' standing up for his heterosexual family.
Being heterosexual does not have anything to do with being any-LGBT, it has EVERYTHING to do with honoring, loving, and honoring your other-sex partner.
