OPINION Video: Debunking The Most Common Myths White People Tell About Race

Oh boy here we go.

Do you really think that t-shirt with Obama wearing a mickey mouse hat was actually a connection between Obama and Mickey mouse?

As for your second question, maybe if you had lived black you would not ask that.. It's not like there hasn't been a continuing history of whites criticizing blacks for things whites get to do. But we blacks are just supposed to believe that's all over because whites say so even as they keep doling it.

The shirt is calling out barry for his Mickey Mouse attempt at being President.
Nothing more,nothing less.
The idea that you want to turn it into a racial issue tells me all I need to know about you.

You're a perpetual victim which allows you to pass your failures off to whitey.

Obama turned around one of the worst economic situations in American history.

Considering the FACTS, this was no mickey mouse job. Therefore why the t-shirt?

Racism.

Victim? That would be you. You pass off your failures on blacks. Just like you falsely blame Obama while giving Trump credit for doing nothing but riding what Obama created. But don't worry we are about to see what Trumps policies will do.

This is the race and racism section. Race will be an issue in this section. So just stop crying because whites don't get to blast blacks freely anymore.

You are ridiculous. So because you believe Obama did a good job as president, everyone else must believe the same. If someone does not, the only reason must be racism.

Now, if you think that HereWeGoAgain is racist based on other posts, that's something different. But if you are saying someone cannot believe Obama was a bad president unless they are a racist, you are simply expecting racism and deciding it is there regardless of the evidence.

He says I'm racist because of this T-shirt....
shirtsquare-mic.jpg

He's obviously just as stupid as the black family that went crazy over it in a restaurant in Marble Falls Texas.

No, I'm saying you are racist as a result of reading your posts since I've been here. And you show the usual psychos whites like you have in thinking that is the only reason why I say you are a racist.

Meh...I just respond to racist in kind.
It really pisses em off....take you for example.

How is it "plainly racist"? What is the connection between Mickey Mouse and racism that makes the shirt plainly racist?

Is any sort of criticism or insult toward Obama automatically racist in nature?

Oh boy here we go.

I say here we go is racist because of racism he displayed long before this t-shirt shit. You made a ridiculous assumption. Now as you are white you have not seen all the different ways racism manifests itself. But you want to argue how things cannot be so based on your lack of knowledge. No one expects racism. And you saying that was so fucking insulting but you can't help it.

"Because most whites have not been trained to think with complexity about racism, and because it benefits white dominance not to do so, we have a very limited understanding of it (Kumashiro, 2009; LaDuke, 2009). We are the least likely to see, comprehend, or be invested in validating people of color’s assertions of racism and being honest about their consequences (King, 1991). At the same time, because of white social, economic, and political power within a white dominant culture, whites are the group in the position to legitimize people of color’s assertions of racism.Being in this position engenders a form of racial arrogance, and in this racial arrogance, whites have little compunction about debating the knowledge of people who have thought deeply about race through research, study, peer-reviewed scholarship, deep and on-going critical self-reflection, interracial relationships, and lived experience (Chinnery, 2008). This expertise is often trivialized and countered with simplistic platitudes, such as “people just need to see each other as individuals” or “see each other as humans” or “take personal responsibility.”

White lack of racial humility often leads to declarations of disagreement when in fact the problem is that we do not understand. Whites generally feel free to dismiss informed perspectives rather than have the humility to acknowledge that they are unfamiliar, reflect on them further, seek more information, or sustain a dialogue (DiAngelo & Sensoy, 2009)."

Dr. Robin DiAngelo

1. I said that if your claim of racism on HereWeGoAgain's part is based on past interaction, that is a different thing. What you posted here did not indicate that
2. I never said anything about how "things cannot be so." What I did was ask you to explain how a shirt showing Obama with Mickey Mouse ears is racist, and point out that if you cannot explain it, it would indicate that you are seeing racism without evidence of it
3. You assume you know my race
4. You have claimed that the shirt is "plainly racist," but have yet to explain why that is. You have indicated that because you believe Obama's presidency was a good one, that anyone who believes otherwise must hold that belief because of racism. If you want ridiculous assumptions, look to your own posts.

I see no debunking. I do see opinion. Opinion is worth what it costs. The only thing here is divisive pot stirring.

You see the truth. The only divisive people are those like you.
Why because I don't see life as you do? The only objective of many of your posts is to divide and I find that as heinous as terrorism.

No, because what you believe is actually divisive.
Nyahh nyahh your mama wears combat boots. Second grade playgroud lame cries is all you have? You're right I am divisive. I question your self pitying pity parties. Stop making excuses for failure and start succeeding.

I don't listen to white boys who have been given everything by the government.

what were they given today that you werent?

If anyone thinks that calling Obama's presidency "mickey mouse" is racist, they don't know what real racism is, it's kinda like the right wingers when they called Obama a Marxist, Socialist, Communist, Nazi. All 4 of those things are different, but the words sound scary, so that is what the right used to demonize him.

Now, those who are saying the mickey mouse shirt is racist? They are doing the same thing as the conservatives did, but only in reverse. Nobody wants to be known as a racist (especially nowadays), so those who support Obama and think the mickey mouse shirt is racist is using that word as a scary way to demonize those they disagree with.

Whether you liked him or not, whether you think he was a good president or not, you should realize that shirt is NOT racist. It is a commentary on how the wearer thought Obama ran his presidency. Me? I'd personally like to have a shirt like that depicting Bush Jr. or Trump, because both are mickey mouse presidents in my opinion.

Commenting on how you feel a person did as president because you disagree with their policies isn't racist. It's just how that person feels.

Actually your constant cries of racism pisses me off as it does for a lot of people.
Why? America was founded on the belief of white supremacy. It's in our laws, it's in our court rulings, it was the law of the land for more than 80% of this country's existence.

If you're tired of hearing about it, try imagining what it must be like to have to actually live it.

This is 2018. Time to catch up!

You say that alot, you havent lived white or you would see how ridiculiius your posts are. You criticize whites all the timw
I guess this is something that just never crossed your minds. While of course we don't know what's like to "live" as a white person, as a matter of survival and in order to navigate the predominantly white society in which we find ourselves, we had to learn about white people and white society, including how we fit into this society and some of the resentment we would face in this type of world.

By comparison, none of you have had to learn about African Americans or anything about us. It was not essential to your survival, it was not necessary in order for you to prosper in this country and apparently it's only shown up on the radar of many because some whites are starting to resent that black people are no longer complying with the "out of sight out of mind" preference that many whites had when it came to "dealing with the negroes".

I damn sure know what real racism is what I saw during Obama was it. Disagreeing with some of a regular presidents policies is normal, but all of them no matter what? Whites don't get to tell us tell us what racism is. And yes the shirt was racist. You see here is the problem with this situation. You guys are white, you have never really been in a situation where you see obvious racism and get back a silly lie. I am 57 years old. I've seen this type of thing at least 1,000 times. "My t-shirt isn't racist, I only meant he was a mickey mouse president." "I didn't say black people, I said blah people." "I didn't call you the n word, I said you got bigger." "I didn't mean anything racist by calling you greased monkey, I meant you were fast." "I wasn't saying anything racist when I told you to go eat a banana, I was just talking about healthy eating." I've heard them all.

No I will look at yours. Because the racism on that t-shirt is self explanatory. And like I said, when you look at the facts of the Obama presidency, you see he did a great job not a mickey mouse job no matter if you disagree. So as you look at the facts there is only one reason to conclude Obamas presidency was mickey mouse while praising Trump for doing nothing. Racism. If you think your appearance doesnt matter when you're job hunting you're a complete idiot.
I don't see any black people in your photos (ebonics implies black people right?) and although I've never met or seen photos of any of the African Americans posting here on U.S. Message Board other than Paul if that is him in his avatar, I seriously doubt any of us look like the photo that you used to attempt to ridicule my comment.

If a hair cut, etc. was all it took for you to get a job than you're either unskilled or obtained it via your privilege because the rest of us were required to be educated, qualified, skilled, knowledgable and "fit the company culture", at a minimum. Background checks, security clearances, drug tests, Microsoft and other certifications to indicate that we are indeed as good as we say we are.

Who's the idiot?
So you're a racist as well as an idiot...
Oh I think we all can see who is the actual idiot with a racist propensity. There was absolutely NOTHING racist in my comment while you actually stated no "ebonics".

Now that's what I said and it is based upon the facts of his presidency not what I just chose to think.

It's funny how you say the racism of the shirt is self-explanatory, yet you cannot explain it. ;)

Again, disagreements about policy or political ideology do not equal racism. Someone who supports Trump and did not support Obama is not automatically racist. That is your own inability to look at anything without assuming it involves racism.

For shits and giggles, how about we look at some facts about Obama's presidency. During Obama's presidency, the US remained at war in Iraq for years, despite getting troops out of Iraq being one of Obama's campaign issues. During Obama's presidency, various aspects of the Patriot Act, such as roving wiretaps, were renewed. During Obama's presidency, the US remained at war in Afghanistan. During Obama's presidency, the US dropped tens of thousands of bombs in Iraq and Syria. During Obama's presidency, the ACA was passed, with the horrible individual mandate. During Obama's presidency, the national debt almost doubled from approximately $10 trillion to $19.5 trillion.

Those are not all solely due to Obama, but each of them are things I consider bad governance, and none has a thing to do with anyone's race. Clearly there are things that can be pointed to about Obama's administration, or any presidential administration, which might be considered bad. That you look at the facts and see Obama's presidency as a success does not make it anything other than your opinion; whether a presidency is a success is subjective.

To look at it another way, do you think that someone who describes Trump's presidency as terrible is doing so because they are racist?

So you're under the impression that blacks, whites or any other color can show up at a job interview with sagging pants and expect to be hired?

Sorry bud that doesn't explain why you thought Obama was a Mickey mouse president. As for the t-shirt it is plainly racist.

How is it "plainly racist"? What is the connection between Mickey Mouse and racism that makes the shirt plainly racist?

Is any sort of criticism or insult toward Obama automatically racist in nature?

Oh boy here we go.

Even liberals know you're full of shit.

I never had to "deal with negroes". Yes, blacks have had struggles, it does not mean it is okay to perceive all whites as evil, which tends to be the atmosphere on these message boards. Constant criticism of whites just makes the black posters appear more racist. Being called racist or other nasty names because I don't agree with a black poster is unacceptable. You will not find even one post from me that even suggests that I am racist, because I am not. I know many black people who are fantastic, I DO treat others by their behavior and not their race. The same cannot be said for many black posters, because they ONLY talk bad about whites.

More bullshit. DO explain how a mickey mouse shirt is racist LOL. White wear mickey mouse shirts too....geez you find racism everywhere. you are too obsessed
