The New Congress and President should be seated the next day. The only reason for the two and a half month wait if for newly elected leaders to travel to Washington from all over the US.

It isn't 1870 anymore, it takes two, three days max to pack up and travel cross country nowadays.

Given the horseshit they've spent their time on, I wish they'd have skipped all the votes. And agreed, if you've been fired, it's time to go. Buh bye.

One-sixth is a bit more than the number of Dimocrats who won't be in the 112th Congress as a result of the voters' backlash over their support for Barry's lefty agenda.

That or just do away with lame duck sessions completely. I mean, what other job can you get fired in and still be allowed to work for another two months before you leave?

The less time they are in Washington, the less damage they can do

Not all retiring members and those voted out.

Don't let the screen doors hit your asses on the way out, boys and girls.

Actually, 1/6 of Congress is only 72.5, not 140, as the second article points out.

It is too bad this isn't a regular occurrance, and save the taxpayer some money.
