Opps could only hoped that he would miss his patended Sky Hook.

Only a few could block his skyhook, that is for sure.

He was a great player.

Also had a very high IQ.

Not sure how serioulsy he took basketball.

they outlawed the dunk after his first title season (66-67) -- when you think of it, if they outlawed the dunk after his 3 titles he would not have had to develop it in response -- he would have been done with college ball.

Also he would tell you, as would John Wooden, he had it prior to that time. It just became emphasized in response.

But for my money the greatest player ever. Easily

He was still just an average rebounder and couldn't win a title without Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson.

As far as scoring in the paint, Wilt was the reason they widened the lane to 15 feet. You want to talk about automatic, many times I was watching a Laker game and Chick Hearn would say, "Ball into Wilt, slam dunk!" And Wilt would be turning toward the hoop. But that's exactly what happened.

Kareem. A real tall guy who could put a rubber ball into a hoop 10 feet off the ground.

Wow.

Kareem is over-rated. Not a physical center at all. Average rebounder, at best. Average defender, at best. No mid-range jump shot. Just sky hooks and dunks. Big deal.

Wilt Chamberlain, in his prime, and Bill Russell, in his prime, would have taken Kareem to school on a regular basis. They both would never have allowed Kareem anywhere near the basket. Wilt would have muscled Kareem around the paint mercilessly, and Russell would have worked Kareem into the ground.
