In a Republic, actually
‘More than a dozen other women have alleged sexual misconduct against Trump. Among them are pageant contestants, an "Apprentice" hopeful, and several whom he encountered at random. During the election Trump threatened to sue every one of the women who made public claims. However no suits were ever filed. (Similarly Roy Moore has threatened a lawsuit against the Washington Post, which first reported claims against him, but hasn't followed through.)

One factor that may be inhibiting the President and his lawyers is the massive record of his own statements, which paint a picture of a man that is every bit as disgusting as the Franken-Tweeden photo. It is comprised of the kind of vulgarities people generally avoid and the press, including CNN, would prefer not to publish. But Trump is an insistently vulgar man, and he is now President. These factors make a descent into his gutter unavoidable.’

On Franken, Trump shouldn't have gone there (opinion) - CNN

Yet most on the right continue to defend this insistently vulgar man, this misogynist, this purveyor of sexual harassment.

Which raises the question as to why.

Much of it has to do with the blind partisanism practiced by far too many conservatives and Republicans, the ’11th Commandment,’ rightists loath to be critical of one of their own.

There are some conservatives who realize Trump is a insistently vulgar man, a misogynist, and a purveyor of sexual harassment, but remain silent because no matter how repugnant they might find Trump, they nonetheless support his wrongheaded agenda of bigotry and hate, his contempt for the Constitution and its case law, and for the rule of law – looking forward to Trump’s appointments to the Supreme Court, reactionary rightwing justices they hope will allow the states to force women to give birth against their will, compel Christian prayer in public schools, and discriminate against gay and transgender Americans.

And of course there are Trump’s hard-core supporters, the base who dwell with Trump in the gutter, who approve of his vulgarities, his misogyny, and his propensity for sexual harassment.
