Okay Soldiers

California Girl pretty much nailed it with her list, depending where the deployed location is I might want some magazines too if their not available on post.

And sandwich bags. When I sent a big ol box, they asked for those because everything is so sandy. The bags keeps the sand out.

As a rule, mine usually include:

Coffee & powder drink mixers
Candy (anything that won't melt) Only send Chocolate in winter if its going to Afghanistan or Iraq
Razors and blades, shaving foam (not in cans)
Baby wipes
Shampoo, soap, toiletries, body wash and shit (I usually send a bunch of travel size ones)
Cereal bars & snacks
Packs of oatmeal & dry soups (just add water ones)
Sunblock
Insect repellent
Baby powder
Lip balm
Toothpaste, mouthwash & toothbrush
First aid stuff (band aids, antiseptics, gauze)
Batteries
DVDs
Stuff to 'play' with.

I would like to add Baby Wipes to this list. It's called a combat shower. ~BH

They're already on my list... and yea, that's why I always send them.

I don't know anyone in the sandbox. Do you just send to random soldier?

I don't either. At my old home board, a woman was sending stuff to her son and his platoon so she asked for help because she wanted to send more than just one box. About 15 of us sent stuff. Mine had all that CG said she sends...except home baked goods. I went to the bakery and got cookies for that.

CG, You're right, I stand corrected. Man, how did I miss that? I must be getting old. ~BH

If you were in Afghanistan and somebody was going to send you a goody box what would you like to find in that box?

My Mom (God rest her soul) would always send me pistachios, jelly beans, and cookies. She'd even send a newspaper or two. This was pre-Internet, so even a four week old newspaper was a pleasure.

I imagine today's goody box includes an I-Tunes gift card, etc.

Oh, yea, I forgot those - magazines!! Not porn!! Porn is not allowed. Apparently. (Although I have been known to send the occasional 'guys' mag and they've got through ok).

So tear off the cover and substitute the cover of Sports Illustrated... an older edition at least six months old. That way if someone checks the box they won't worry about reading the magazine, not even open it and they will let it through. :eusa_shhh:

I usually just stick it inside a more appropriate mag. Seems to work. :eusa_angel:

Is there such a thing as a more appropriate magazine? :dunno:

It really depends on the location. The more remote it is, the more trivial things you can send. Otherwise, they can be had over there often for free. A fleshlight might of been kind of cool.:eusa_whistle: True story, I was on an airfield and we were given a box with no name, so we try to figure out who it was for. Open it up, and it's full dildos and other various toys. The receipt ended up having the name of some civilian that worked in the JOC. She was embarrassed to pick it up from us.

I have a huge number of Army/Marine/Navy friends and family so I tend to send to them. Being in the UK, I've also sent parcels to their guys too, through their support appeals.

If I'm sending to a few guys in the same unit, I'll send each a different mag so they can pass 'em around. I've got the whole 'care package' down to a fine art.
