Under my proposals, (1) Cruz would have been unable to buy a weapon (unless he obtained a fake ID, which is very hard to do now with chip-enabled IDs), (2) at least a dozen teachers at the school would have had a gun, and at least a few of them would have been close enough to return fire, (3) he might have decided against even trying to carry out the shooting because he would have known that a number of the teachers were armed.

* Establish a national database for the dangerously mentally ill and require all mental health professionals to report the name and other personal information of anyone they have deemed to be dangerously mentally ill based on personally counseling/treating that person. At the same time, establish an appeals process where a person named in that database can challenge their status, and ensure that the appeals process takes no more than 60 days.
* Require--not encourage, but require--all schools to select 15% of their faculty to keep a gun at school and to receive, if needed, a basic gun-use class, with the gun to be kept in the classroom under lock and key and with only the teacher, the principal, and a vice principal having a key.
* Require counties to assign 10% of their day-duty police squad cars to do random patrols at schools five days a week. Even poor counties with small police departments could spare 10% of their squad cars to do random school patrols. Yes, this might mean that police departments would need to cut down on all the policemen assigned to do speed traps.
* Require schools to provide identification and reporting training to teach students about common behaviors/profiles of previous school shooters. For heaven's sake, if you see a guy talking about guns and about killing people and/or about killing animals on the internet or in person, say something to the police.
* Establish a national minimum sentence of 15 years for *any* crime committed with a gun or by someone who had a gun on their person during the crime. No whining exceptions. What I'm saying is that we can't have such standards because Democrats can't be trusted. Democrats are evil people and would use such a law to eventually disarm all of us if they ever regained full power of the federal government.

In the past they have suggested we have the ability to sue gun manufacturers and stores for murders that happen in our cities. They suggested we tax ammunition so it's unaffordable. They have even suggested a law that requires liability insurance (as if a criminal would get a policy) in order to own a gun.

Create a written test. If you fail the test, tough shit. If you are in certain meds you're out as well.

Having said that none of this will stop school shootings. To do that you have to stop treating every child as if they are all equal. Some kids have individual needs that are never addressed.

Actually you brought up a good point. For instance if Democrats were in charge and you take a medication for anxiety, they can put you on the No Buy list and you'd never be able to own a gun as long as you're on anxiety medication.

Look at what DumBama did with people on Social Security. If you were unable to function to the point you couldn't' even pay your bills, you were not allowed to own a firearm; as if old people on SS were a major problem with murder.
