oil and gas companies, spent $146.3 million on lobbying last year

Stop regulating their industries and then they will have no reason to spend money lobbying politicians.

That's a GREAT fucking idea. Even with regulations in place, just look at what BP did to the Gulf last year....:cuckoo:

You're a fucking retard. Do you know how many wells have been successsfully drilled in the Gulf? The Gulf has recovered, too bad idiots like you never will.

Hey dumbasses, the cart didn't come before the horse. The reason we have laws is because the private sector did things that were counterproductive to the good of the country and it's citizen's and they caused problems.

Just keep it going, we get it, you want to put the country in the hands of private industry.

Doesn't make it an ongoing problem.

Dumbass?
Quite mature of you.
Anyway, hone up on your comprehension skills.......I was referring to his "even with regulation" comment....
Existing regulations on the most part are necessary...although some need tweaking.
As for putting the country in the hands of private iundustry?
Uh...Hello...this is America....it is SUPPOSED to be in the hands of the citizens and the companies they own and work for.
Government is FOR THE PEOPLE and BY THE PEOPLE.....not the other way around.

This is one of the most naive things I have ever in my life read, and perhaps one of the dumbest, on so many levels. Sorry, but, you deserve that. You are saying, that they shouldn't have to spend money in order to bend regulations, which have been set their by precedent based upon repeated corporate behavior that jeopardize the well-being of the planet, eco-systems, the environment, and people, yet, "because I'm a republican, the only thing that matters are humans, and the world and everything else is ours to be had." Get real dude. Get real about people, about people in power, and what they would do if left unregulated. The damage to our earth would be so much greater than it already is. The audacity for you to say this after the disaster in the gulf is overwhelming.

The major impetus of oil industry lobbying is centered around the nearly $90 billion in taxes that Obama wants to levy on that industry. $147 million is cheap compared to the effects of Obama's proposed budget.

Why are we tax payers propping up the oil companies again?

Shit happens.

That's the point. Shit happens, but fortunately we do not usually have ongoing problems with the same shit happening over and over, because we have regulations in place. Obviously you support ending, or at least reducing, regulations and obviously . Why? What difference does it make, unless industries will not live up to the standards of current regulations if they are disposed of in law? As you've already established, even under current regulations, shit happens. You are advocating opening the door for even more "shit" to happen. More people will die because more spinach will become tainted with E. Coli. More medicines will make their way onto the market even though they are dangerous. More oil rigs will fail, more accidents will happen, and more oil will be dumped into our coastal waters.

I aleady explained twice that I was not referring to the lifting of regulations. I was referring to VaYank's remark about "even with regulations, look what BP did to the gulf"..
Regulations are fine as they are.....but to enact new legislation becuase of one accident is absurd.
To shut down the off shore drilling becuase of one rig accident over the thousands of rigs that operate 365 days a year is absurd.

Which has WHAT to do with our government giving them tax breaks?

Everything when you talk about "propping up" oil companies. Do you know how much federal tax is taken out of one gallon of gas? Hell they're making money hand over fist and they don't produce a damn thing.

Idiots like you that bitch about the oil companies are the ones that are against us drilling for oil in the first damn place. You do know that if the governement got the hell out of the way we could supply all the oil we needed and wouldn't have to rely on foreign oil and the price of crude would be a hell of a lot cheaper. You greenie weenies are a bunch of whack jobs.

How many people have died globally due to DDT ban?

The admin has used the BP accident as an excuse to kill an industry... we're feeling the effect here in LA big time. The oil and gas industry employs MILLIONS. The jobs are slowly moving abroad.

This admin has KILLED an industry? Really?

The apprehensions over oil prices come as ExxonMobil, one of the world’s largest publicly traded companies, revealed a 53% increase in earnings in the fourth quarter. ExxonMobil’s $9.3 billion in earnings equate to $1.85 per share, higher than the $1.63 per share anticipated by analysts.

You could have been a little less dramatic about this and simply said anything with plastic or rubber contains oil. I know this. It doesn't change my position. Someday, we are going to have to change from oil. IT IS FINITE IN SUPPLY. What do you NOT UNDERSTAND about this? So, because it is HARD to swtich, we shouldn't do it? Because we rely on it so heavily, screw it? Fuck that! We have a responsiblity to this earth and future generations. Yeah, great, we will be fine while we are alive, but what about after we are gone? The Coming generations, the future of the global ecosystem. Your way of thinking is SO UNBELIEVABLY SELFISH! Hence, why republicans are fake.

No one can possibly know if it's an infinite supply of not. No one has explored every square inch of this world and located every oil deposit. Your new nickname is "chicken little".

So it must be one or the other? Exactly why cant we continue to tap into the resources we have access to and know work well while we continue the R and D for a viable cost effective solution? Why must we continue to find ourselves beholden to the middle east? So we can say "we think oil is bad, so we will continue to use it but not be part of tapping into it...it sort of makes us MORE in the right"..
Talk about fake.

I know a girl who is a vegetarian and claims it is her protest against the inhumane way beef and other meats are processed...something that on the outside, I admire.
Hoiwever, when asked why she wears leather shoes, her response was "that is a bi product of the meet manufacturers and it would go to waste anyway"

Now you tell me...what is wrong with that picture. Inhumnae treatemnt is not OK as long as I can live without it....but if there is something I need out of it, well, I can find an excuse as to why it is OK.

THAT is how I see the liberal thinking.

lol...and you call conservative thinking fake.

Drama and selfish? Seen any news footage from Wisconsin lately?

I want to hear more about taxpayers "propping up" the industry.

Yank?

The budget President Obama submitted to Congress last month proposed repealing $3.6 billion in oil and gas subsidies – subsidies that come in the form of tax credits – in 2012. The White House estimates that repealing those tax credits would bring in $46 billion in revenue over the next 10 years.
