McCain stonewalls on radical friend -- chicagotribune.com

There are three things in the world that you should recognize will not happen in this lifetime. You will not become a billionaire. The Cubs will not win the World Series. And John McCain will not explain his warm association with a notorious political criminal.

The extremist McCain has befriended is G. Gordon Liddy, who got a 20-year prison sentence for multiple felonies in the Watergate scandal—including burglary, conspiracy and illegal wiretapping. Finally forced to acknowledge the connection in an interview last week by David Letterman, McCain ducked and dodged before replying, "He went to prison, he paid his debt, as people do. I'm not in any way embarrassed to know Gordon Liddy."

What does any of this have to do with McCain? Plenty. Liddy held a fundraiser at his home for McCain's 1998 Senate re-election race. He agreed to speak at another McCain fundraiser in 2000.

He has given several large contributions to McCain, including $1,000 this year. He has hosted McCain on his radio show, where the Arizona senator gushed, "I'm proud of you."

Too much stuff that Liddy has done to copy/paste into this thread since you can't post a full article.

Okay Republicans, where's your screaming "WE WANT THE TRUTH" on John McCain's felon friend who is PROUD of his crimes. Oh and Liddy is a man who has URGED LETHAL FORCE against federal agents.

Any Republicans care to step up and condemn John McCain? Or care to grasp onto that double standard?

I'm sorry, but when Liddy tries to blow up the Pentagon and then writes a book that says that he wishes he had done more to kill American citizens, this would be a story. However, Liddy was a Nixonian criminal that paid his debt and served time in prison. How many days did Ayers spend in prison. Oh yeah, he recieved an amnesty from a liberal President.

Well this friend has actually rehabilitated. Ayers laments that he didn't bomb enough people.

Excuses Excuses, of course if this were a friend of Barack Obama's you'd be calling for Barack head.

Actually, you are completely wrong on this.

McCain says Liddy paid his debt, as if that erases everything. Actually, most of the debt was forgiven by President Jimmy Carter, who commuted his sentence. McCain doesn't mention that, like Ayers, Liddy has never repented of his crimes, but takes pride in them.

Epic fail on your part, ACTUALLY read the article next time.

Carter was guess what by the way? A LIBERAL President.

DOUBLE Epic Fail.

Like I said when this campaign started, I have to choose between a socialist, McCain, and a marxist, Obama. Neither one were my first choice but I must choose between the two, that is our system. And unless one ends up in bed with a live boy or a dead girl they're gonna' be on the ballot come Novmber 4th.

I'll choose McCain.

the right would if it were Obama and Michelle.

Hell look at their reaction to Edwards, Clinton and the Senator who replaced Mark "the pervert" foley :doubt:

At last check all of the above were still breathing, much to their wives' chagrin, I might add.

Lets not sway too far off-topic.

Do ANY Republicans have enough integrity to stand up and condemn John McCain like they have Barack Obama for such associations?

To up the ante, I'll give pos rep to anyone on the Right that has the guts to do the correct thing.

Robert, I can't and I won't equate the two. Liddy is not a marxist and he's not at war with America. But even if he were, that doesn't mean I'd vote for Obama.
