Oh, They're Calling For Changes To Police Dept's, Are They ?

I'm for all of that except for the militarization of the police. We already have a military, we don't need two. Also, we need more public oversight of police, especially where people are killed under highly questionable circumstances, rather than being "internally resolved." Asking police to judge the actions of their own is akin to the IRS asking you if you were accurate on your taxes. There are far too many killings where people are gunned down in cold blood when the perp was either harmless, innocent, no threat or could have been stopped through non-lethal means.
I think there are some of those. I disagree that there are many. What there is too many of is the BS spread around that every time a black guy is arrested, the cops were brutal to him. Just yesterday, in Sarasota County, FL, a black guy was arrested, and neighbor went ballistic.

The dude was RESISTING arrest, and the cops did their job according to proper protocol (so said the black chief of police)

A lot of people need to STFU, and stop bashing the cops, who have a tough and dangerous job.

Without a doubt black people are cut a wider swath of tolerance in their behavior and they are under-arrested for the preponderance of crimes they actually commit. In contrast to the claim they are picked on, Blacks skate the law 5:1 compared to white people based on actual interactions with police. Problem is that Blacks put up such a stink when dealt with, sometimes it backfires on them and they precipitate their own getting shot, which then the black community makes another big stink over.

Sure. Make sure the kiddies know at a very young age that a cop just might kill them at any time on a whim, and they should fear for their life if the cops think they aren't responding fast enough. I'll bet that restores the trust and respect that cops need to do their jobs.
Typical liberal idiocy. Take what is factual reality, and twist it into something idiotic.

1. There is no "whim"

2. Response speed isn't in the scenario. It is a matter of being able to see the suspects hands, which you ALREADY KNEW from the previous post, thereby showing you to be the cheap, 2 bit, fleabag, turd, full of shit LIAR, that your are.Tell the truth, or get the fuck out of the thread, scumbag!

It all comes down to you thinking it's OK for the cop to kill when he so desires. There are certain times when deadly force is called for, but there is no reason why the cops have to see everyone's hands every minute.

Change is coming, and it will be far more extreme than the worst nightmares of the cop lovers imagine. The problem is that the cops refuse any image of reasonably responsible accountability. New York City has had the Citizens Complaint Board for years. Previously this group has commented that more cops are being caught lying thanks to video.

Changes to this board in the last couple years have been to speed up the process of investigation and determination of police misconduct. The board limited the time of the department to respond to complaints from more than 200 days to no more than sixty, with thirty days being the norm for minor complaints.

Coupled with this, in an effort to streamline the process, the recommended punitive action has been drastically slashed. Most complaints found valid are of the Tell the cop not to do it again as a corrective action variety. The department has responded by refusing those recommendations. Yes. You read that right. A verbal bad boy statement from superiors is too harsh for cops caught lying, and abusing people.

Police, at Odds with Oversight Board, Reject More of Its Penalties

Now, the foaming at the mouth defenders of the cops will cheer. But the problem is that people are getting elected arguing for more change, and more accountability by the police. What happens when nothing changes? The accountability people aren’t going to give up, they are going to get even more determined. By the time they have enough legislators to make the change, and that is coming faster than you might think, the changes the cops are resisting now, will seem like a dream by comparison.

The worst part is the cops won’t have anyone to blame but themselves.

End of Watch Friday, January 8, 1960

Edward J. Johnson, Jr.

Sergeant Johnson was stabbed to death after responding to a report of an emotionally disturbed person armed with a knife in a homeless shelter. When Sergeant Johnson and his driver arrived, they observed the suspect with a 10 inch knife. Sergeant Johnson ordered the suspect to drop the knife, but the suspect lunged at Sergeant Johnson, stabbing him in the chest. Before falling to the ground, Sergeant Johnson fired six shots from his weapon and his driver fired three shots, killing the suspect.

The knife penetrated Sergeant Johnson's heart, and he died at the scene.

Sergeant Johnson had served with the New York City Police Department for 11 years. He was assigned to the 5th Precinct.

Sergeant Johnson was survived by his wife and son.

This is the case police dept's across the country used to train officers. They realized that they needed to have certain methods to use to protect the officers. This officer was killed while he and his driver were shooting the perp, and it did not stop the attack. I believe that today the standard is, is that if someone with a knife is within 15 feet of you, it is a lethal threat, and waiting to fire could cost you your life.

Police simply are following standards that have been "tested" thru decades of actual experience.

What a bunch of absolute bullshit. Seriously. Complete nonsense.

Since the 1960’s the cops have been given access to literally dozens of tools. The modern cop carries enough shit on his belt that Batman is jealous. Yet the crap is wasted money in the end. The only thing they go for is the one size fits none answer of the pistol. Yesterday two cops died eating lunch. What is the answer to that? Don’t eat lunch? Shoot everyone in the restaurant to preemptively end the attack?

If the cop did shoot up the restaurant some jackass would be here telling us the cop absolutely did the right thing.

We are supposed to be in awe of the police because they have a dangerous job and they are so courageous as to laugh at the danger and accept the risks. In the very next minute we are supposed to accept that the cop was afeared for his life and this fear absolutely justified shooting an unarmed man in the back.

The cop is a hero for killing an unarmed man. The guy who kills a cop is a coward for shooting an armed cop who was wearing a bullet proof vest. It is all bullshit. All of it.

Using your logic, the military must shell schools because there was once a sniper at a school. Hospitals must be bombed because there was once a guy with a rifle who shot at soldiers in World War II from a hospital. We have to use chemical weapons on the attack because they used them in 1918 in France.

Cops have to shoot because the guy might have a gun, or a knife.

In Sacramento, CA, black activists led by Al Sharpton, are calling for changes to be made in police departments, all across the country. Well OK. I'm all in favor of changing things to make them work better. Here's a few of my suggestions, for police department changes >>>

1. Mandatory arrests of protestors blocking traffic (In cities with Democrat mayors, protestors have been allowed to block traffic without arrests)

2. No stand downs of police in protestor confrontations (as in Baltimore, MD)

3. Mandatory police/citizen interaction classes in public schools, given by police.

4. Issuance of automatic rifles for use against gangs and violent crowds (Tanks and other military equipment too)

5. More funding for hiring more cops.

6. More funding for police investigations, leading to arrests of people shown committing crimes on video (Ex. guy lighting a fire in a convenience store during the Ferguson riot + vandalism and looting)
Mandatory police/citizen interaction classes in public schools, given by police.
Not a bad idea. Start very young.

unless you like it when unarmed young black males are shot by the police for no reason. then you feel threatened by it.
I wonder if "Big" Al has made any payments on his income tax yet. Al just wants to shoot his mouth off. If the cop quit responding to call in black areas they would be up in arms. Mostly 9 mm s.

This would finally get them to know they must keep their HANDS VISIBLE & EMPTY.

As long as liberals control schools, kids will never know this. Unfortunately, liberals are not too swift on the subject of guns & law enforcement.

This would help to prevent riots too.

And half of the shootings are of unarmed people, and or shot in the back.

Explain this to me. Why is the cop a hero for shooting an unarmed individual, but the guy who shot two cops in Florida a coward? The cops were armed and wearing body armor. The jackass walked up on two armed cops at a diner, and opened fire killing them. The Sheriff said this guy was a coward. But you and the rest cheer cops as heroes for shooting unarmed people. Why?

No, I am not overjoyed that two cops were killed. I am saddened. But I am also smart enough o recognize propaganda when I hear it. Propaganda is more bullshit.

I was in the army. I was shot at, and returned fire. I held people at gunpoint. Trained soldiers. But I never shot an unarmed individual. How was I as a 22 year old able to survive? In addition we had language difficulties since they did not speak English and I didn’t speak Arabic, or Spanish. How is it that nobody in my unit managed to shoot an unarmed individual? I mean in a war zone where the enemy is not only equipped but trained to kill we survived and didn’t shoot one unarmed individual.

According to you, we should all have died. According to you, the rules of engagement should have been a death sentence. How the hell did we survive?

When the laws required the cops to actually see a gun before they could shoot, how the hell did any of them survive? Many departments had it as policy that the officers had to shoot second, in other words they had to return fire, wasn’t this a suicide pact?

This is where your bullshit falls down. The fact that half the police shootings are either unarmed or shot in the back is proof of bullshit. The fact that historically the cops had far more restrictions on their use of force, and somehow managed to retire is another proof.

But let’s talk history. In the 1970’s, the training for the cops was a technique known as shoot, shoot, assess. In other words, you fired two rounds, and paused to see if the baddie was going down, had dropped his weapon, or what. This technique coupled with the fact that you weren’t supposed to shoot if the baddie did not have a weapon was the basis of the training for cops. It was a good, and IMO common sense technique. First, it saved ammunition for a second baddie. If you emptied your weapon into the first bad guy, the second one would kill you deader than hell. Secondly. With the medical arts of the era, the baddie was most likely going to die with two bullets in him.

It is the same technique I use to train today. Shoot, shoot, assess. Coupled with the fact that I’m not pulling Sam Colt unless I am sure I have to, and I am not shooting unless there is a verifiable threat.

Shoot, Shoot, Assess. It has mutated through exceptions and mistakes to the modern technique of shoot for days. All because the cops keep learning the wrong lessons, and we as a society keep making the exceptions, the new rule.

In Stockton California, the cops fired six hundred rounds at four bank robbers. Most of the cops shooting could not see the baddies and were actually shooting right around their fellow cops. They were just spraying and praying as they dumped the magazine in the general direction of the baddies. That is not heroic. That is not professionals at work. That is jackasses on an adrenaline high pulling the trigger as fast as they could with little concern of what they were shooting at, or where the bullets were headed.

But I maintain that changes are coming. You see those changes coming too, which is why you are so upset and posting asinine doom and gloom threads about how if you don’t do the shootings in questionable at best situations, you’re going to die. It’s bullshit. More and more people know it. If you were serious about discussing how we got here, and how we went too far in our use of force, I’d be happy to discuss it with you. But you aren’t serious, you’re just another jackass who thinks the cops can do no wrong, and anyone who dies at their hands, deserves it.
