OH! The Superior French

Its not that i dont realise the importance of the vote made by France. What i dont understand is after so long why are there no attempts to build bridges with the French. Also didnt Germany vote against us as well yet i dont see any anti German threads here.

I think i would have to be an American to understand how strongly you all feel over this.Perhaps if we had the same media coverage i would feel the same as you.It just suprises me how you have hung onto this one that i dont fully understand.

Let me see, they have a leader that wants to be the opposing force against the US in the world and has not only publicly stated so but did so while campaigning. They vote against us just to be that opposition. They work to shut down US power with their votes and we are supposed to assume they are really on our side?

I don't understand you at all. Saying that a vote doesn't speak volumes about the stand they are making against the US is simply disingenuous and shows an ignorance that is clearly defined in your posts.

I can't speak for anyone else, but here's the reason I despise the french government. France presents itself as an ally and a friend. But the fact of the matter is that the french government seeks to harm our interests at every opportunity. Chirac apparently has aspirations of creating a European hegemony with himself at its head. He uses USA bashing in the same way that Hitler used the Jews - as a whipping boy and scapegoat. France views the US in the same way as radical islamists - as the "Great Satan". Only they don't have the balls to say it out loud.

So the reason I get after the french boils down to the fact that I can respect an honest enemy, but I hate and despise a false friend.

I believe the attempt for the second resolution was that attempt. Seems that Colin Powell was lied to, thus for the current French administration, there is no point in us working with.

Germany has flipped and flopped a bit. They seem determined to fly off of French coattails in EU, trying to block Brits, but still trying not to break from US.

Here is a popular blog on German press: http://medienkritik.typepad.com/blog/2005/01/sueddeutsche_ze.html

as you can see, there are some thoughtful Germans who do not like what has been happening there. In this case he recognizes that a lot of people are influenced by the press. This seems to be a bit of cognizance that the French have not developed. The only consistent voice has been the: http://www.thedissidentfrogman.com/dacha/index.html

and as you can see, it's mostly American readers.

If we feel (which we do) that the French have "wronged" us, why should we attampt to build a bridge with them. Should not they be attempting to build a bridge with us?

The behavior of American sympathizers of the IRA cannot be compared to the US Government’s relationship with the UK. “So much for allies?” That does not make any sense. The US just sent back to Britain four terrorist UK citizens that were detained at Gitmo for three years. Should I now think of the UK, “So much for allies?” taff, my post above made it quite clear why I dinged your rep. The fact that you think French anti-Semitism is "ridiculous" demonstrates that you are ill-informed and have not studied history.
