With all the hype and doom and gloom surrounding "predictions" such as this, the one thing people fail to recognize is this: more species of animals and life have gone extinct in the history of the earth than currently live on the planet.

Now, I don't want to see polar bears, or any other creature, become extinct, but it happens. It has always happened. It will always happen.

Should we do everything possible to mitigate such a thing? Yes.

Doesn't it have to do with the ice floes melting? That's where the bears do their "fishing," I think.

They do most of their seal hunting in the springtime to early summer when there are still a lot of sea ice cover.

They manage to survive in times of little to no summer ice for thousands of years in the early Holocene as shown in a number of published science papers over the years. Even when there were a lot less sea ice cover in the springtime too, they still survived anyway.

There are many published papers showing little to no summer ice in the Arctic early in the Holocene, which lasted for a few THOUSAND years, it is the Spring-Early summer ice cover that is most critical time when the Polar Bears do most of their eating for the year. They gorge on the Seal on the ice and in the water surface area where they are catchable.

The main reason why there were so few Polar Bears around a few decades ago despite a much thicker ice cover, was the unregulated hunting which decimated them. From Wikipedia,
