Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez apparently believes the “electoral system” is unfair because she can’t receive her congressional salary until she’s actually sworn in as a member of Congress.

On Thursday, the 29-year-old socialist spoke with The New York Times about her election victory on Tuesday.

But rather than discuss her ideas for Congress, Ocasio-Cortez complained about not being able to afford an apartment in Washington, D.C.

Given that she will not be sworn in as a member of Congress until January, the Democratic socialist complained about not receiving her congressional salary for another three months.

“I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress, so how do I get an apartment?” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Those little things are very real.”

Ocasio-Cortez said she and her “partner” have been saving money since her days as a bartender in New York, but decried that it wasn’t enough to get her an apartment in D.C.

She said no such thing, klown shoes. Read your own link.

Being a socialist and all, her pay should be 15 per hour.
She should make no more than what she wants for her supporters.

If I had my way Congresscritters wouldn't get paid at all. They'd get a free room and meals. That's what 'public service' means.

Good to know there's an occasional non-élite in that place. That's as it should be. Drain the swamp and all that.

I completely agree.
I think she is in for a culture shock of what DC really is from her old life however.

You have of course twisted her words . . .

And it's definitely relevant to discuss the costs of relocating to D.C., one of the most expensive cities in the country, for new legislators coming into office. Especially if we want to reduce the number of millionaires and get some folks in there who really represent the 99%; I would suggest that a relocation stipend wouldn't be out of the question, especially because many federal employees and military folks enjoy such benefits.

However I also agree with the sentiment about paying Congresspeople less and providing them with housing and meals, or modest allowances for both. Amazon had a funny series early on called Alpha House that was about four conservative legislators cohabiting; back in the day it was not uncommon for Congresscritters to share housing like that and there were actually even a couple of dormitories on the Hill for housing Congresspersons. It would be nice to see that again, especially as it would encourage more of them to spend more time back at home in their districts, and be a disincentive to setting up permanent residences in D.C. and then transitioning into K Street lobbying jobs after they leave office.

Of course at the root of all that is wrong with the way things are currently is the way campaigns are financed and how much dark money is allowed in politics; campaign finance reform and overturning Citizens United is critical if we are ever going to get our government back in any real sense.

She's got a guaranteed job. Shouldn't be an issue to get a loan fronted. I think she just commented on the transition and the OP saw it and figured he could make rhetorical Play-Doh out of it.

So that idiot Occasional-Cortex manages her finances so badly she can't afford a place to live........yet this special-needs-child, cretinous, drooling vegetable bitch is elected to the federal government, which deals with major financial matters all the time? Her brain must be the size of a cherry Starburst that President Trump said was his favorite -- which of course prompted a screaming, national media baby-tantrum by liberals over a matter that about which even a FIVE-YEAR-OLD child wouldn't give a fuck!

Potential future millionaire. Ex-barmaid will sell her votes out in an acme second like many of them once she learns the ropes.

She's not a very good Socialist if she can't get her hands on Other People's Money... :21:

Not to worry... she'll borrow bus fare, then find a place under the porch of some LibTard Georgetown University professor or another...

On weekends, she can wait tables while she's drafting bills to empty the pockets of rich folk and give it all to Hispanics.

Calling that ugly ass monkey a socialist is an insult. She is a totally uneducated, unintelligent, racist idiot.

This is what right wing trash blogs do. They take a casual remark about the high cost of residential real estate in the District and completely rewrite it into a false claim that she actually expected to be paid before she was sworn in, something she never said, and which the New York Times did not claim. The right wing trash blog just made it up.

And all the talk radio right wingers on this thread took it at face value without question and started parroting the fake claim.
