Obama's using war to boost his poll numbers

This thread simply drives home the point.

The far-right fanatics will never be pleased with anything Obama does. Even if he takes the action they advocate, they will just find a way to spin it into more criticism: "not enough, too late, chasing poll numbers, etc ..."

Just the kind of rhetoric you expect from those who place their own ideology/Party ahead of what is good for the nation.

I've seen a lot more posters from the middle and leaning left category who at least have the honesty to agree with what they agree with and disagree with what they disagree with regardless of whose name or which party is "attached" to it.

Great post!!! They refuse to give Obama a chance. And one thing I'll say for Dems. We gave Bush a chance, especially after 9/11. He blew it when he decided to invade Iraq. But at least we gave him a chance.

It is Bush's wolf in Obama's sheep clothing. If anything, it is a recognition that we are not going to be successful in Afghanistan whether it has Bush's or Obama's name on it. Particulary if there is no plan on how to pay for it other than using US soldier's lives.

How is escalating the war in Afghanistan a political ploy when most Americans oppose escalating the war in Afghanistan?

Do you people EVER think these things through before you post them??

I'm going to love watching them trip over themselves on this one.

I don't care what his reasons are, as long as he finally makes a fucking decision.

Agreed.

The lack of a focused military strategy has been a terrible disservice to our troops.

If Obama finally gives them such a strategy, I will support that.

Word is the "strategy" is a jumbled mess trying to appease all sides of the issue - not one of strategy, but of pure politics.

I hope that is not the case, because if it is, increased military confusion and hardship will ensue...

Oh Booooo Hooooo

The only correct decision he's made since being President is telling the snipers to shoot those Somali pirates.

The rest has been one fuckup after another.

It's too fucken bad Obama can't handle the normal second-guessing that goes along with being President.
Obama took the credit but he wouldn't give the OK. The boots on the ground just took it, once it was done Obama took the credit. How do I know? I know someone who read the final report.

I suppose if he just launched the war then that would be fine but at the same time this report released criticizes Bush for not deploying troops to get Bin Laden. This is done so he can say "look how different I am than Bush...look how bush f'ed up and I am going to fix it".

In 2007 while Bush was ordering the troop surge in the unnecessary war, Iraq, do you know how many troops we had in Afghanistan?

about 25,000.

You are aware aren't you that there is widespread opposition to escalating in Afghanistan, especially from the left?

No, I am not a liar. You need to respond like an adult. Grow up, for God's sake.

Gee, I'm not used to this!!! Somebody responded to me without cussing!!!

I am going to be perfectly honest here. I don't know what the right thing to do is. I really don't. At this point, I want to see what the prez says tomorrow night. Supposedly he is going to give us the reason he decided to send more troops, as well as define the exit strategy. I'd really like to wait until then to discuss it. Do you plan to watch??

I will watch. History tells me we need to just leave. Even the Taliban had limits on what they could do. It is simply an isolated region run by warlords. Hopefully the plan will have timelined goals. If these goals are not met we start to withdraw, not build up further.

Michael Moore is already bashing Obama, get ready, he has already pissed off the independents and conservatives now he is going to piss off his base, the liberals in the democratic party, he will go off a cliff with this one in the polls.

Michael Moore stating that Afghanistan will be Obama's war and he and others are totally against sending more troops.

Actually this is the only decision that he has made that I support. LOL

I too have heard the same - from similar sources, I guess.

I'm against him sending a one more soldier as long as he keeps acting like he's not all that interested in winning.

He's shown he's not really interested in doing his job as Commander In Chief. He's more interested in pushing his version of health care reform down our throats instead.

If he proposes half measures tonight like every other Democrat then I think now is the time to withdraw. It will save money and save lives. The reasons for being there in the first place is over with. Osama Bin Laden isn't there anymore. The problem is in Pakistan, not Afghanistan.
