The current administration has decided to execute a successful strategy about Afganastan but it doesn't involve succeeding in Afganastan. It involves a executing a successful political strategy for an ailing president who's poll numbers are beginning to plummet rapidly. The president has held his decision for months about what to do while telling the people that he is "thinking" of a plan that only he can think of because he is Obama (snicker). The decision he will come to is to send more troops but how is that different than what the generals have been telling him for months? It does not make sense to wait and wait just to make the same decision that your generals said you should make but it does make sense that delaying the decision might give the senate more time to craft this report that says that Bush failed.

Once crafted the report can be released on the same day that the glorious one (snicker) decides on a new war strategy that will save the day. Releasing them on the same day is inlign with a political strategy that the democrats have been using for the last eight years and that is to blame Bush but this time its blame Bush and highlight our leader's ability to be better than the Bush administration.

This might sound cynical but there has to be some questions that have to be asked?

1) What other parts of the facts have been left out of the report that blames currently sitting democrats? Why was it so heavily slanted to blame former Bush officials?

2) When did they decide to begin this report? Is this report a normal periodic release that the government does or was it something special for this occassion?

2) Why release the report around the same time that our leader is going to announce his new strategy?

3) If our leader needed so much time to think of something then is what he proposing any different than what was originally reccommended by the generals? Obviously he was not "creating" anything on his own!

4) How many options were given to the president? Three options might be plausible why he took so much time but if it was one then why spend so much time about one available option? Its either yah or nea and if it is nea then why would you ponder not sending in more troops in the first place?

Did you write this all by yourself?

It's not going to work. Most think he has already blown it in Afghanistan. This decision on troop levels is only going to be a Half-Measure decision. It will be a modest increase in troop levels but it wont be what was asked for. His Half-Measure decision will be an attempt to please those in the Military who think he has completely blown it in Afghanistan so far. It will also be a attempt to please his fellow Left Wing kooks in his party who don't want any increases in troop levels. This will just be a continuation of his failed Half-Hearted approach to helping our kids out over there. This decision will not lead to Victory in Afghanistan. What a shame.

This thread simply drives home the point.

The far-right fanatics will never be pleased with anything Obama does. Even if he takes the action they advocate, they will just find a way to spin it into more criticism: "not enough, too late, chasing poll numbers, etc ..."

Just the kind of rhetoric you expect from those who place their own ideology/Party ahead of what is good for the nation.

I've seen a lot more posters from the middle and leaning left category who at least have the honesty to agree with what they agree with and disagree with what they disagree with regardless of whose name or which party is "attached" to it.

No its actually when you time a report and your decision at the same time that makes me think it was done for political reasons.

How is escalating the war in Afghanistan a political ploy when most Americans oppose escalating the war in Afghanistan?

Do you people EVER think these things through before you post them??

Hopey Changey = George Bush on Steroids. Hope & Change really are simple mantras for simple minds. What a scam.

I'm not sure how you arrived at this conclusion. Obama's actions on Afghanistan have undoubtedly hurt him, not helped in the public eye. The Democrat Party has for many years had a reputation that they are weak on military issues and Obama is reinforcing that opinion.

Great post!!! They refuse to give Obama a chance. And one thing I'll say for Dems. We gave Bush a chance, especially after 9/11. He blew it when he decided to invade Iraq. But at least we gave him a chance.

This can be said for ideologues on both sides of the political aisle. For instance, the Democrats should have been thrilled with some of the things Bush did yet he was probably the most hated president by them since Hoover.

Which ever party controls the country, they can never do anything right in the eyes of the opposition, even if it's exactly what they would do themselves were they in control.

Oh Booooo Hooooo

The only correct decision he's made since being President is telling the snipers to shoot those Somali pirates.

The rest has been one fuckup after another.

It's too fucken bad Obama can't handle the normal second-guessing that goes along with being President.

I suppose if he just launched the war then that would be fine but at the same time this report released criticizes Bush for not deploying troops to get Bin Laden. This is done so he can say "look how different I am than Bush...look how bush f'ed up and I am going to fix it".

I do know his numbers were sky high after 911 but that is normal. Eventually they went to the normal levels.

What is your point?
