Much terrorist funding comes from Saudia Arabia. Bush has refused to take a harder line on the Saudis because they supply us with oil. He hasn't called them terrorists, so he must be condoning terrorism. That is the standard you set.

It is even easier with dictatorships. Bush hasn't called the following regimes dictatorships: Pakistan, Saudia Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Russia (essentially), Ethiopia (it really is), Kuwait. I am sure there are many others, but this is what comes to mind. Hence, he must condone authoritarianism. I am exactly apply the standard you have set. In fact, he has "made friends" with some of those regimes, so arguably that is worse.

Maybe that will make you forget that people are actually dying while you ponder the creation of "good" relations with terrorists, or "understanding" what makes killers tick, or worrying about what we might have done to make people kill us, or stressing over the possibility of global warming and considering the importance of withholding those resources which could potentially hugely reduce all of those problems.

My instinct is that most liberals really don't want to solve problems. If the problems were solved, then what would they feel guilty about?

I'd like to know how getting warm and fuzzy with killers will prevent deaths. I'd like to know how refusing to acknowledge that what they do is wrong, and maintaining close ties with killers, does anything except encourage them and make them feel better about what they're doing, while simultaneously despising you even more?

"Getting to know" killers will not prevent them from killing. It just makes you an accomplice. Even psychologists know that. First you stop them. Then if you want to be friends, go ahead. You don't make nice with them when they're slaughtering people, and expect somehow that your friendship alone will deter them. People who kill innocents have absolutely no scruples when it comes to killing. They could care less if you understand them or not, and regardless of how well you understand them, understanding them will not stop them.
