From Newsbusters:

All three morning shows on Wednesday skipped a startling claim by Senator Barack Obama during the previous night's presidential debate. During a discussion on spending, he bizarrely asserted, "Actually I'm cutting more than I'm spending so that it will be a net spending cut." However, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, that statement doesn't even close to being true.

Their numbers show an increase in spending of $425 billion over four years of an Obama administration and only a decrease of $144 billion. And this is factoring in Obama's tax increases as a way of "saving" money. And yet, ABC's "Good Morning America," CBS's "Early Show" and NBC's "Today" all failed to report on the discrepancy. GMA reporter John Berman even filed a "fact check" segment on the debate, but ignored the Obama claim, which was picked up the AP.

Keep trying.

Keep trying? It's pathetic? The OP seems right on, to me! I don't see how he can get a spending cut with what he has proposed, he needs to give more specifics about how he is going to make spending more efficient.

It's simple, sweety.

Getting out of Iraq will save us $200 billion dollars a year.

Chris and DavidS are programmed. They don't know how to think for themselves. Examples of being a possession of an ideology. If it is against your beliefs, it must not be true. If it is for your beliefs, it is true, by golly, it is true. If you want to be a dictator of some small nation in the middle of nowhere, just follow these two examples and you'll be able to get from point a (before presidency) to point b (become president) if you say the things that the programmed wants to hear. That is why our tax system is bracketed at rates from 10% to 35% today. You can segmented groups. To please one segment, you harm another. Problem, they are all interwined. Have you seen a guy in the 10% tax bracket owner of your employer? Have you seen a guy in the bottom 50% of taxpayers authorizing your paycheck?

This is what he has done all along. Out one side of his mouth he asserts that he isn't into redistributing wealth...then he proposes wealth redistribution policies. Out of one side he states he isn't going to increase taxes...then he says we will make all employers and parents provide insurance to employees and kids. Out of one side of his mouth he says the surge can't work...then he says it works just fine.

He's a liar and a slimeball.

That's how you take power, become elected. Bush played that card with the right and look how he turned out. I just hope someone takes a checklist of all Obama promises, like a time capsule. Then four years from now, see which ones came true and which ones were broken.

What bullshit.

The gap between the rich and the rest is greater than it has ever been. It is time for the rich to pay up.

McCain seems to be doing a little of that too, calling Obama a terrorist sympathizer in one breath and an honorable man in the next.

Back to the OP, the numbers don't add up, but I susspect they could if the plan was more detailed, though I don't see how that can be done without going over the budget line by line and stuff like that that needs to wait til after the election. I would at least hope he could give a better idea how the overall cut works mathematically. It might boil down to taxing the wealthy.

And that is redistribution and socialism.

There should be a better way to equalioze the rich/poor divide thorugh smarter spending on education etc.

No, that's how slimeballs take power. Lie and cheat your way into the presidency.
