When it comes to the subject of marijuana, Barack Obama appears to talk out of both sides of his mouth. As a candidate, Obama intimated that he would respect state laws regarding medicinal marijuana and would not prosecute medicinal marijuana sales and use in states where it is legal. “It’s not a good use of our resources,” he said at the time. When Obama took office, the Justice Department released a memo that seemed to confirm that position. But in the years since Obama’s inauguration, his administration has shifted course. Now, Attorney General Eric Holder is vigorously prosecuting medicinal marijuana growers and sellers.

That effort appears to be intensifying. On October 7, Obama directed his Justice Department to employ an aggressive array of enforcement actions against California’s medicinal marijuana producers and distributors, as well as the landlords who lease space to operators of marijuana dispensaries. All told, President Obama’s Justice Department has conducted well over 150 federal raids in at least seven states, and U.S. attorneys have threatened local and state officials in 10 states with criminal prosecution for failing to adopt proposed medicinal marijuana laws.

It is not foolish to Obama and his following of big-government, socialist whack jobs.

Now hear this! Now hear this!

Obama is a....

MARXIST!

Everyone likes drugs, so does the government. They do not care if people are on drugs they just care about who's drugs. If pot was legal all these incredibly expensive antidepressants would have no buyers. Law enforcement and the private prison lobby dictates our drug policy and our politicians just go along with it.

Well since he scoffed at the million of internet users at the very begining it is hardly a suprise.

I hope the million whom he shat on don't give him any money next year.

Yea it's just like the Patriot Act. Him and Democrats claimed they hated it so much and were gonna get rid of it. But as soon as they got the power they only strengthened it. Duped again i guess.

Amen man both parties are one half of the same coin whether it's D or R both sides Fuck us in the ass

its not about the drugs its about control........

Spot On. That's what i always say. Big Government is only about the control. Thanks.

it is funny that most politicians.... even, and especially, republicans.... argue against marijuana legalization by saying that legalizing it would send the wrong message to kids that pot is now morally ok to do........

well, anyone that looks to government to define their morality have already given govenrment full control over their lives......

You're right...the drug company's would really be hurting! I have friends that have a medical MJ card, i could probably actually get on easily. Most i know have had to take pain pills for different reason, so they can sleep and function. Since they started using MJ for this most haven't hardly touched any of their pain medication, they sleep well are relaxed and most definately eat well! Lol! So yes, the drug companies and the Dr's that get kickbacks on all their prescriptions would really lose out.....assholes.

As I recall, Carter did the same thing. Paying lip service to marijuana law reform then doing an about face.

Nope.

Jimmy Carter: Drug Abuse Message to the Congress.

and more nope.

The commission’s facts and arguments are persuasive. It recommends that governments be encouraged to experiment “with models of legal regulation of drugs ... that are designed to undermine the power of organized crime and safeguard the health and security of their citizens.” For effective examples, they can look to policies that have shown promising results in Europe, Australia and other places.

The first link is dated 1977, while he was in office. The second is dated this year.

In the mid-70's I was our college campus rep for NORML and do clearly remember Carter - the campaigning Carter- being quoted as favorable to marijuana law reform.

But thanks for the links- very informative.

Excellent post. And to add more than that-painkillers are much more destructive and addictive than pot is.

I had to take hydrocodone for months and months following a severe car injury, and after I def. realized how people can get addicted to that stuff.

The Pharmaceuticals and Law Enforcement agencies are incredibly powerful. They are clearly opposed to the idea of legalizing Marijuana. Imagine Millions & Millions of people quitting their pills and toking some Marijuana instead? The powerful Pharmaceuticals would freak. They just can't allow that to happen.

Not just that but there alot of people who have built their careers on this war on drugs, plus there is alot of money tied up in it right now, there is no way those guys are going to let anyone take food off their table.

Spot on there. What will likely happen is that the Government will legalize it at some point. But they'll tax the hell out of it and wont allow individuals to grow it for their own personal use or sale. They will hand that task over to the Big Pharmaceutical Corporations. They will be the sole suppliers of it. Any hopes & dreams of having a small business Marijuana shop will be crushed forever. Only the Pharmaceutical Corporations will be allowed to produce it and sell it.

And Law Enforcement will be happy because they'll still be able to run around kicking Citizens' doors in making sure no one is growing their own or selling it. It will be a Win/Win for the Politicians,Pharmaceuticals, and Law Enforcement. But obviously the People will lose again. Government is only about control. They just can't allow the People to be free. It is very sad but it is what it is.

I know! One of my sons (he's 38) has been trying for about 2 years to clean up after getting addicted to pain killers...they are MUCH worse that pot. In fact i don't know of anyone who is addicted to pot. And even if they did, it's definately not as bad as going through the withdrawals you would with pain pills.
