Obama's Columbia thesis excerpt surfaces

Dan Rather had weeks to authenticate his bogus documents, only to have them debunked inside a few hours once they were released in his fake story.

It didn't take me but a few clicks to find the ultimate source of this fairy tale, and hold it as suspect given the sketchy source.

How GULLIBLE is the right wing??

Hey...I found a copy of Obamas birth certificate in my garage....it says he was born in Moscow

Dude broke the news first in here that the story was false - or appears to be at any rate.

But much like what happened to Limbaugh and the false quotes attributed to him - this Obama story is already spreading and becoming fact for many...

and the 'apology' was heartfelt and blamed the author of spreading:

Faster, Please! » The Obama “thesis” hoax

The Obama “thesis” hoax

It’s a hoax, or a satire, depending on your point of view. Joe Klein has said that he never read any part of an Obama “thesis” from his Columbia days, and that’s conclusive, as far as I’m concerned.

The hoax/satire was written in August, so it’s not connected to any current event. I cam across it on Twitter, read the blog, found it interesting, and posted on it. I failed to notice that one of the tags was “satire.”

So he got me, and lots of others. It worked because it’s plausible. I’ve done satirical pieces myself, and I know how they can take off. I once wrote one that said that Bill Casey did not die, and was hiding in a bunker under the St Andrews golf course from which he was running Mikhail Gorbachev. I thought it was obviously satirical, but it went like wildfire all over the world. And that was in the days before the Internet.

So I should have picked up some hint, but I didn’t. Shame on me.

I’m posting this as quickly as possible. Apologies to the president and to Joe Klein, and to Rush Limbaugh, who had many very wise things to say about the Constitution and the views of the Founders today, and to everyone else who got involved.

Haven't seen this from those that did Rush story or from Rather...:doubt:

Maybe I can get Rush Limbaugh to help me look for the Balloon Boy

i would like to shamelessly point out that i was only 3 minutes behind the dude....

someday, i will be the dude around here, so you had better wise up

And Republicans ate them up like fresh food at the all you can eat buffet. Hook, line, and SINKER.

One thing sums this entire thing up:

Year and a half (almost) old article, but wouldn't it be interesting to actually read his thesis?

Obama and the case of the missing 'thesis'

Conservative provocateurs have been hunting for it. Investigative journalists have been on the prowl, too. Even a former professor has been searching through old boxes for his copy of it. But today Barack Obama made it official: He doesn’t have and can’t release any copies of the thesis-length paper he wrote 25 years ago while a senior at Columbia University.

“We do not have a copy of the course paper you requested and neither does Columbia University,” Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt told NBC News.

This thread led me to question something... is there a reason that a Presidential Candidate should release such documents? This thesis was written 26 years ago. I am sure his views have changed over the last 26 years maybe they have gotten more socialistic or maybe less who knows, but, is such a thesis something to use against him?

I would not mind reading it, but using it as something to prevent him from becoming President? I don't think so.

I'm approximately 3 months older than the President. I can tell you that in 26 years, my beliefs have changed significantly... in fact, they've changed in the last 26 months. Are you going to hold that paper I wrote in Junior High about the Cherokee Nation against me?

Immie

10 months later and you still think Obama is up to the job of the Presidency...LOL

As much as I currently don't like the job he's doing, he's doing better then McCain and his nurse ever could.

What metric are you using to judge Obama's Performance: Jobs created or saved?

Glad right-wing blogs are reliable sources now...
I'd say about as reliable as that left wing blog, "New York Times"

I haven't weighed in on this as I'm hearing a lot of noise about this not being credible.

Kind of like that quote that has been attributed to Rush Limbaugh that never was spoken by him.

There were many quotes attributed to Limbaugh that were complete fabrications.
