Obama’s Cap N Trade Lie | Newsflavor

The Democrat Cap n Trade legislation puts forth a goal of capping global carbon to 450 parts per million by 2050. Now for the average American, such a number by itself has very little meaning to them. The Democrats will simply smile and nod, and present the figure as proof of how they wish to save the world from dirty and abusive humankind. The evil Republicans of course care not for the planet, and will oppose this Cap n Trade legislation out of pure avarice - the earth be damned. And yet, where does the real evil of this legislation actually reside? Could it be in the asinine projections of lowered carbon emissions - projections based on pure folly meant only to justify yet another dangerous expansion of government upon private enterprise?

Blah,blah,blah,blah.....

You are right about one thing.

The Republicans are evil, no question.

Even such nations as France and Switzerland, often noted as the world leaders in CO2 reductions, would fall far short of the Democrat Cap n Trade CO2 reduction goals. Those nations would have to reduce their current emission levels by over 50%, an impossibility for nations already utilizing nearly 80 percent of their energy via CO2 neutral production by nuclear and hydro power. (Both these forms of energy production have long been under attack by environmentalists in the United States by the way…)

Instead of focusing on cap and trade,

I would be putting money into developing carbon nanotubes.

Then we wouldn't need cap and trade.

Sure.

So you should be speaking out against Cap n Trade...

well I'm sure he thinks you're a fucking invalid mental midget. I know he'd be correct about that.

Cap and trade was in the works long before Obama.

Remember the name Goldman Sachs if this thing passes.

It's a scam, the only worth while goal is to reduce all emissions...

It doesn't bother me.

Clean energy is made in America. I don't mind paying more for it.

So then pay more for it yourself, you also don't seem to mind forcing people who can't afford it to pay more for it, there's a word for that ... :eusa_whistle:

There are only two ways to do that. A top-down centralized approach or letting the market sort it out.

Australian Senate Dumping Cap-and-Trade and Embraces Renewable Energy

Australia's Senate passed a renewable energy law today, a few days after opposition and minority parties joined forces to kill the federal government’s carbon-trading plan.

The new law sets a national renewable energy target that requires utilities and other large electricity users to procure 20 percent of their electricity from renewable sources by 2020.

This is a rational approach. Rather than penalize behavior, change the process. It's along the same lines as source reduction when speaking of controlling trash generation. It will very likely be a cost neutral approach and will promote the cooperative effort between community, government and business.

By setting a goal date 11 years out, the utilities are obliged to continue with normal upgrades and re-investment and are guided in how to spend their resources. This is a positive approach.

Cap and trade is a negative approach rife with government control and opportunity for deception and paybacks. Perfect for a government that is trying to control, manipulate, deceive and punish.

Except that this so-called "rational" approach doesn't really do anything to toward that goal.

At first, Australia followed European model, then realized that it wont work. Heavy taxes on businesses will just force them to close their doors. Who knows, maybe thats the goal.

What surprise me the most is, that since 2007 there were 11 mostly bi-partisan proposed alternate energy bills in the Congress that were all killed by the democrat controlled committees. Suddenly, Cap and trade bill was presented as "Must pass" and voted on without anyone reading it.

Here they are:

H.R. 729 Home Energy Generation Act 2007
H.R. 1215 Amends the Energy Policy Act of 2005
H.R. 1772 Rural Wind Energy Development Act 2007
H.R. 1945 SUN Act of 2007
H.R. 2428 Biofuels Research Initiative Act of 2007
H.R. 2441 Renewable Schools Energy Act of 2007
H.R. 2774 Solar Energy Research and Advancement Act of 2007
H.R. 2848 Solar Opportunity and Local Access Rights Act 2007
H.R. 2947 Energy Efficient Buildings Promotion Act 2007
H.R. 2950 United States Energy Storage Competitiveness Act of 2007
H.R. 3807 Renewable Energy Assistance Act of 2007

obama says cap and tax will cost the middle class $1716 dollars a year. more like 6000 i think.

Limiting the emissions to 450 ppm ain't gonna happen. Even were we to succeed in capping ours emissions and then reducing them in a twenty year period, the young industrial nations would push that number right past 450 ppm.

Right now we have the means to create cheap solar cells that would be 40% or better efficient, manufactured using an ink jet process. We have a storage system for electricity based on common material that are available right here in America, and that would be produced by assembly lines using machinery already on the shelf. Both the processes have been created by small American companies. And we will most likely see them produced in China. Do we have no industrialists with vision and patriotism?

The bill won't do what it is touted as doing. It won't affect global warming. In fact it will probably make it worse, as manufacturers move production to India and China. Those countries have already declared carbon legislation is dead. And they use energy less efficiently than we do.
Yet another disconnect between goals and means by the Obama team.
