Let’s reflect with him. During his first campaign for the presidency in 2008, the president promised that his health reform plan would
“bring down premiums by $2,500 for the typical family” by the end of his first term.

Well, that first term is just about up. And health insurance isn’t any cheaper. In fact, it’s more expensive. Premiums have increased by an average of $3,065. And they’re about to go up even more, as Obamacare takes effect during the president’s second term.

At the end of 2012, Mark Bertolini, the CEO of Aetna, the third-largest health insurer in the country, warned that many consumers would face “premium rate shock” with the advent of Obamacare’s major insurance regulations in 2014. He predicted that unsubsidized premiums would rise 20 to 50 percent, on average.

Obamacare Guarantees Higher Health Insurance Premiums -- $3,000+ Higher - Forbes

So instead of decreasing by $2,500 , premiums have INCREASED by $3,000!!

With the average individual health insurance premium today being $4,547 in 2011,
Folks no matter how you cut it... THIS shows how totally inept Obama and his administration really is!

How could any of you keep your job if you told your bosses.. next year our costs will go down by $2,500 only to have to report a year later to your boss
our costs didn't go down but WENT up $3,000 boss... How long would you be working for the boss because YOU not only lied but you showed your total incompetence!

Instead of premiums dropping $2,500 to $2,000 THEY INCREASED to $7,547!
THAT IS A SWING of 377%!

But what can you expect when these idiots couldn't even tell you that 10 million of the supposed 50 million are NOT CITIZENS!
Or tell you 14 million of the supposed 50 million WERE ALREADY COVERED!
Or pass off as "uninsured" 18 million people under age 34, make over $50K and have little health expenses so they pay out of their own pocket!
That leaves truly 8 million!
But this inept President can't even add and subtract!

This idiot President proudly stated..
He said ""And if we are able to slow the growth of health care costs by just one-tenth of 1 percent each year -- one-tenth of 1 percent --
it will actually reduce the deficit over the long term"!!

"Deficit"??
A) Obama confused "debt" with "deficit"!
B) But the most egregious? When Obama said "over the long term" this idiot evidently had no idea how big the debt was ($8 TRILLION at the time!!)
But he stupidly thought reducing the deficit $2.5 billion a year was impactful... IT WOULD BE OVER 1,600 YEARS!

Are health insurance premiums already skyrocketing? -- Yes

What does PPACA do? -- Forces people to keep buying from private sellers a product whose cost is skyrocketing.

So what will the prices of health insurance and health care services be expected to do? -- Skyrocket even further.

So why in God's name sign PPACA into law? -- As a consolation to the health insurance industry, allowing them to gouge the American people until they squeal for further government intervention in the form of a comprehensive takeover of the industry and conversion into some sort of universal government health care system.

YOU know I love reading absolutely IGNORANT people's comments and you are one of those ABSOLUTELY IGNORANT nuts!

A) the biggest cost driver of health insurance premiums skyrocketing is "$750 billion a year in "DEFENSIVE MEDICINE"!

AND I'm not saying that... hear READ what the physicians that send the claims to the insurance companies are telling YOU!!!

In a recent Gallup survey, physicians attributed 34 percent of overall healthcare costs to defensive medicine and 21 percent of their practice to be defensive in nature. Specifically, they estimated that 35 percent of diagnostic tests, 29 percent of lab tests, 19 percent of hospitalizations, 14 percent of prescriptions, and 8 percent of surgeries were performed to avoid lawsuits.

Liability reform has been estimated to result in anywhere from a 5 percent to a 34 percent reduction in medical expenditures by reducing defensive medicine practices, with estimates of savings from $54 billion to $650 billion.

1,231 physicians...(90%) Ninety percent of physicians surveyed said:
"doctors overtest and overtreat to protect themselves from malpractice lawsuits."
"Defensive medicine is when doctors order multiple tests, MRIs and other procedures, not because the patient needs them, but to protect against litigation based on allegations that something should have been done but wasn’t. according to the survey published Monday in Archives of Internal Medicine.
Besides more time-consuming appointments, patients are left with fewer services and less access to quality care as doctors either narrow their practices or leave the profession entirely."

Survey: Health Premiums Rise By Small Percentage
This year, health insurance premiums rose by one of the smallest increments in more than a decade, and that's according to a survey released yesterday. Still, as NPR's Julie Rovner reports, it's still not clear why this happened, and if it's only temporary.

JULIE ROVNER, BYLINE: The annual survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research and Educational Trust found that the average price of a family health insurance policy offered by an employer in 2012 is $15,745. That's a whole lot of money, but it's only four percent more than last year, says Kaiser Family Foundation president and CEO Drew Altman.

DREW ALTMAN: Four percent is a low increase, and it is good news for someone like me who has been studying health care costs for more than 30 years, and these moderate increases in health care costs are actually pretty striking.

Growth of Health Spending Stays Low
January 7, 2013
WASHINGTON — National health spending climbed to $2.7 trillion in 2011, or an average of $8,700 for every person in the country, but as a share of the economy, it remained stable for the third consecutive year, the Obama administration said Monday.

The rate of increase in health spending, 3.9 percent in 2011, was the same as in 2009 and 2010 — the lowest annual rates recorded in the 52 years the government has been collecting such data.

Health care price growth falls – 2012 challenging low 2011 level
Health care price inflation in November, at 2% year-over-year, was a tenth below October’s reading. The 12-month moving average, equal to 2.1%, is fractionally above its 14-year low rate, and with 1 month to go, 2012 may come in lower than 2011 (which showed the lowest health care price growth since 1998).

Physicians estimate the cost of defensive medicine in US at $650 to $850 billion per year
December 19, 2012 | by Steven Rothrock MD

Health News Observer ? Physicians Estimate The Cost Of Defensive Medicine In Us At 650 To 850 Bill Articles

Findings from this survey include the following:
  • Physicians estimate the cost of defensive medicine in US at $650 to $850 billion per year. This is 26 to 34% of all US healthcare costs.
  • Up to 92% of US physicians practice defensive medicine.
  • 76% of physicians report that defensive medicine decreases patient access to healthcare.
  • 53% of physicians report delaying new techniques, procedures, and treatments due to fear of lawsuits.
  • Patients most affected by defensive medicine include those visiting emergency rooms and those requiring surgery.
  • Women are most affected by defensive medicine.
  • Emergency medicine, primary care, and OB/GYN physicians are most likely to practice defensive medicine.
  • 79 to 83% of surgeons and OB/GYNs have been named in lawsuits.
  • Physicians contracted by the federal government practice significantly less defensive medicine as they are protected against lawsuits by the Federal Tort Claims Act. Only 48% practice defensive medicine compared to 92% of non-government physicians.
  • Physicians in New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Sweden (much lower risk of lawsuits) claim to order no tests, treatments, or consultations in an effort to prevent a lawsuit.
  • 89% of physicians support a patient’s right to be compensated fairly for true negligence.

Looks like you prepared that post in advance and had your finger on the trigger and fired prematurely. Read my post again and try to grasp my opposition to PPACA.

Just long enough to destroy your weak obfuscation.

LOL

Maybe read the text Berwick put around that figure:

The ACA includes provisions for cutting payments and raising revenues that will achieve about $670 billion of gross savings for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as a payer between 2011 and 2019, according to the CMS Office of the Actuary. These estimates focus on “direct” savings, which are realized whether or not physicians, hospitals, insurers, and other stakeholders in the health care system change their behavior; that is, they neither assume nor require reducing waste. The estimate of total savings theoretically achievable through waste reduction, as opposed to direct cuts, far exceeds that figure; it is more than $3 trillion for CMS in the same period and roughly $11 trillion for all payers. Eliminating on average an additional 4% of this waste each year—reaching a 37% reduction in annual theoretical waste by 2020—would achieve the goal of sustainability over this period.

The ACA does not ignore waste reduction; indeed, many of its provisions aim for it. For example, value-based purchasing can encourage hospitals and physicians to adopt best practices, decrease patient injuries, and help reduce overuse of ineffective care. Accountable care organizations and bundled payment can give more patients the benefits of seamless care. Predictive analytics of Medicare claims and more aggressive enforcement ought to reduce fraud. Expansions of bidding procedures may lead to prices that better reflect actual production costs. If successful, these programs and others like them will reduce overall health care expenditures, provide a windfall of “indirect” savings to CMS, and all the while improve patient care.

That figure is the argument that system failures--in payment and in care delivery--are at the heart of our cost problem. And that addressing those failures is the key to our long-term solution. In other words, the philosophy behind the ACA's reforms/approach to cost control.

I just didn't realize you bought into that philosophy.

NO.. THIS IS WHY I responded:
"As a consolation to the health insurance industry, allowing them to gouge the American people until they squeal for further government intervention in the form of a comprehensive takeover of the industry and conversion into some sort of universal government health care system."

You obviously have fallen for the rotten insurance evil profiteering companies MEME!!!
You evidently don't grasp the simplicity of what insurance companies do!
They get the claims.
They pay 98% of the claims within 30 days!
The average insurance company pays 80% of every dollar in premium BACK OUT IN CLAIMS!! 80%!! ACA requires 85%!!! So right there that's driving premiums UP!
NOW it appears you think these greed grubby insurance companies are making HUGE profits right???
Go to this web site: Fortune 500 2009: Top Performers - Most Profitable Industries: Return on Revenues

In 2008 Insurance: Life, Health (stock) net profits were 4.6% of revenues (22 on the list) WOW big bad profits 4.6%!!!

Did you know that in order for insurance companies to be able to sell in almost all states, the STATES REQUIRE RESERVES!!!
RESERVES come from those NASTY NASTY PROFITS that you say insurance " gouge the American people "?

MY point is I am NOT defending insurance companies but attacking the IGNORANCE as to how they work and when people throw words like "gouge" I simply want people to know the FACTS!
The insurance actuaries make the premiums and THEY are having problems trying to figure out future claim payments because THERE ARE NO "PRE-EXISTING Conditions" any more!
Consequently smokers and non-smokers (JUST AN EXAMPLE!!!) are now lumped together with actuaries considering ALL people are smokers!
Consequently they build premiums based on considering cancer caused by smoking...hence we don't know smokers from non-smokers.. they all pay at smoker rates!
NOW I know I know there are some situations but on the whole "pre-existing conditions" is one of the reasons for increasing premiums!

Let’s reflect with him. During his first campaign for the presidency in 2008, the president promised that his health reform plan would
“bring down premiums by $2,500 for the typical family” by the end of his first term.

I hate when people post nonsense like this. Let's look at your numbers. You state that in 2011, the average individual health insurance premium was $4547, and that was after a $3000 increase over the past three years since Obama has been President. So you are telling us that in 2008, the average individual health insurance premium was $1547. I call bullshit on this. That would be a 200% increase in the last three years. Again, I call bullshit on this.

Why do you always bullshit us?

OP- only tinfoilers believe all this bs from greedy health scammers anymore.

Keep telling your self that. Our company premiums increased 22% which I guess to someone so enlightened as your self it is considered a minor increase.:clap2:

Last gasp of greedy insurers BEFOR O-care starts in 2014. And you'll probably get a refund.

BTW, health cost rise AVERAGED 13% under Boooosh. DOUBLED.

Anyone who doesn't believe that insurance premuims are skyrocketing are those who are on the doles and don't have to pay for anything. I don't expect those people to appreciate what the average working American faces. They'll say it's all BS and dismiss it. Shame that they will forever stay ignorant. I guess that's the price one pays when they turn their lives over to government.

I pay for my insurance, all of it. I don't have an employer paying 80% of my premiums. I have had the smallest increases in premiums the past two years than any year over the last fifteen. Now whether that continues in the future, I don't know, but the past two years, my increases have only been 4% compared to every other year in the past where the increases were in the double digits.

I agree.

The only winners under the ACA are those who don't have insurance. They will all be subsidized by we the taxpayer.

We sure won't be winners in any way, shape or form.

The ACA will be anything but affordable to those of us who pay for benefits or buy our own health insurance.

All courtesy of the Demorcratic Party of America. Notice that the Clowns in Congress and the Fed workers won't be using Obamacare.

OMG...if you want to blame anyone for premium increases, blame the insurance companies. They are the ones raising your rates in advance of the Affordable Care Act because once the ACA goes into effect, there are cost controls.

Personally, I want to thank the insurance companies for doing it. They are pushing us faster and faster towards a public option.
