Obamacare: Buy Insurance Or Go To Jail!...

this is a gift horse for the insurance industry... we are better off having a Medicare system we can buy in to or be taxed for, that covers all imo....

i don't feel good about making this mandatory...

then, if you do not, or do not have a public option, there is nothing to lower our health care expenses and insurance companies can charge as high a price as they would like....and not care because it is mandatory for citizens to buy insurance from them....so...they have guaranteed customers....no need to compete.

Care,

You understand that if there is a public option, then in 5 years there will not be a private option right? Is that the result you are seeking?

no, i don't see that.... i worked over 20 years for a few corporations, and they will not just give up....they would never give up just because they have competition, they just will have to work harder if the going gets tough to reduce their overhead costs, maybe even reduce their $25 million a year salaries to their heads, dot every eye and cross every t so that they can enjoy better profits if competition gets stiff.

In addition to this tech, the bill requires the public option to be self sufficient paid for by the insurance policy holders only, so they are on the same level ground as the private insurance...no special gvt treatment or rules that the public option does not have to meet that the private sector has to meet.

The private sector will not give up in their fight to keep thier corporation alive and well, and if they do, then the owners, the shareholders have hired the wrong people to do the job.

Besides if government in inefficient as most say they are, they could be higher priced than the private sector for all we know...

What I do know, is an awful lot of tax payers money seems to be going in to this plan and we owe it to the tax payers to have our government competing for some of this business, as when we have a government program that we open up for competition among the private sector.... sometimes the gvt wins the deal themselves because they could do it cheaper than the private sector, but if the private companies bidding can do it at a better cost then the gvt contracts out the private sector with our money because it supposedly SAVES us money....

Also, the public option will not be that easy to institute...it has to be done state by state and can not be set up as a nation wide plan from what i read in the bill, (which is another mistake, not loosening insurance laws within the states in this bill or at least none that i have seen) so, I doubt they will be able to get their costs down as much as some think....and i believe the same thing for the coop option, has to be done within a state....the private sector can give the public option and or coop option a run for their money...it may not be real easy, but easy enough...

i don't think the insurance companies should be just handed 30-45 million new customers by mandate without having to truly compete for them....THAT i know for certain! I just really don't know where to go from there to solve that issue...

care

is that why I purchased extra life and health insurance here? gee it sounds as if you know about as much about Canadian healthcare as you do your own.....

It sounds as if you know nothing about much of anything. But you do repeat the leftie talking points like a good parrot.

First, there is no final bill so you can't know whether the provision you cite is going to be in there in the first place. Second, even if it is in the final bill, the history of this country in entitlement plans is that if they run a loss, Congress will admonish them to do better and they run a loss. Remember AmTrak was supposed to be profitable in 3 years.

Beyond that, it sounds like you really, really are buying everything these people are saying and I don't think I have the wherewithal to disabuse you of it. So, I hope it works out for you after the dust clears.

"Buy insurance or face the wrath of Government?" Come on politicians, surely you can do better than that. We don't have to give up more of our Freedoms & Liberties for possibly better health care. More Freedom & Liberty for the People! Not Less!

I didn't know that a public option would wipe out all the insurance corps?!?..... how will this happen?

You should know, that's the way Canada did it.

The "public plan" doesn't need to make a profit or break even. It can run a deficit forever. Just like all of the health care plans do. It won't take too long for all the health insurance plans to decide they cannot compete against something that loses money every year. So, they will stop offering health care plans.

Then, you will be left with the "Public Option" of course, since having health care is mandatory or pay a fine, it isn't an "Option" anymore.

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fine for not buying health insurance. "Violators" could also be charged with a Misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty,Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it "Sincerely,Thomas A. Barthold."

So there will be a Health Care Gestapo created after all. This is and never was just "Silly Paranoia" like so many were accused of by the Hopey Changey Sheep. This is reality. Lets just hope & pray that our Politicians stand on the side of Freedom & Liberty and do not support this current health care legislation. We do not have to be forced to give up more of our Freedom & Liberty in the name of possibly better health care. Just isn't a wise trade-off in my humble opinion. Surely we can fix our health care without further oppressing the people. I hope all will urge their representatives in Congress to vote against this legislation.

That's the ticket, throw them bastards in jail and there they will get free healthcare.

Yes and 3 meals a day with an exercise room, in this economy with 15 million unemployed sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Remember,Socialists are not Liberals. The Democratic Party has no more real Liberals. True Liberals would fight for your right to Freedom of Speech and do not resemble current Democrats at all. Just ask yourself something...Why do most current Democrats kneel to lick Hugo Chavez's boots? The man is a National Socialist who is currently shutting down all opposition Media. No real Liberal would support this. More people need to start understanding that these current Democrats are Socialists and not Liberals. Hopefully more will figure this out.

NOT in the 1100 page house bill....the public option has to be paid for by those buying the insurance plan....the public option gets no breaks, it has to meet all requirements put upon private insurance, as it SHOULD.

it would be an option for me...who has no option but to go with the 1 insurance plan offered at the hubby's work....we have NO CHOICE....and i hate insurance companies and am one of those people that have been DICKED TWICE by them refusing to pay the bill....one for around 15k 19 years ago and last year for a $2000 bill they refused to pay....

I WANT A CHOICE darnit, and do NOT have one, like most other people that get their insurance from work and who their employer chose...

While I feel your pain with medical insurance companies. Couldn't government FIX this with simple regulation--versus--a take-over? In fact, everything that is wrong with private medical insurance company operations that has been proposed--can be fixed by simple regulation--versus a take-over.

While I agree with Obama that medical insurance should be mandatory--I don't really think we can throw people in jail for not having it. That's just moving more tax money into our prison system. It would cost a lot more to keep people in prison than a $1900.00 fine. I agree that they should be fined--but would go even farther than that. If someone could afford insurance & chose not to get it--& then they end up in our emergency rooms--make them pay that bill back too--by adding the cost of their care to their tax liability & charge interest until that bill is paid back in full.

Wow it really is just so shocking to actually see people defending fining & imprisoning our citizens for not having health insurance. My God,what has happened to my nation? Why are so many so willing to just give their Freedoms & Liberties away? It really is incredibly bizarre and a bit frightening too.
