Obama wonders: Why no tort reform when R's ruled?

I'm wondering if we'd be in this same situation if they ever did have a supermajority. I'm glad you all have faith, because personally I think both parties have done a pretty good job at proving they have no ability to govern or actually do anything.

And sadly at this point, it is better when the government does nothing.

Yep. The GOP blew it when they had a majority. The Democrats are blowing it with theirs. We should get behind the Tea Partiers who are condemning both and demanding elected leaders with a brain, with a sense of fiscal responsibility and accountability, and with a moral center, and they don't CARE what party is represented. It is our only hope to preserve the Republic as it was intended to be.

I had to chuckle at all the newscasts moaning about how much it was costing the government to be closed during the big DC snowstorms this winter. I was thinking about how much it was saving us. :)

The GOP only had a majority in the Senate 2 years out of the last 10. Are they supposed to do everything by themselves without any help from the Dems? Are they supposed to now after the fact address every stupid issue Obama claims they should have tackled when they already had their hands full with other issues?

You're addressing this to me? The one you accused of being a liberal? :)

But yes the GOP held the majority in the Senate from 1995 through 2000--that plus a GOP majority in the House is what literally saved Bill Clinton's presidency. Without many convictions of his own they dragged him kicking and screaming into welfare reform and a treasury surplus which of course he now gets credit for.

But by the time President Bush took office the Democrats had a slight edge in the Senate or it was pretty much 50/50 and that did make it tougher until the Democrats took back control of both houses in 2006.

That, however, does not absolve the GOP of their fiscally irresponsible ways when they held most of the power in Washington and for their failure to make the Bush tax cuts permanent and for their failure to rein in Bush's left leaning policies on immigration, energy, and expansion of federal entitlements.

The GOP remains heads and shoulders above the Democrats in its resistance to many advances into socialism and erosion of personal freedoms, but it cannot be absolved of its sins until it repents. To repent, by my definition, is to go and sin no more.

The answer to why there was no "Tort Reform" when the Repugs had the White House, House of Representatives and the Senate is simple. For the same reason that Abortion Laws were not changed, they need an argument.

By changing the smoke and mirrors of Tort Reform, the Repugs would have nothing to bitch, whine, moan and complain about. They had more than enough time, and more than enough votes to enact Tort Reform, and they sat on their collective-fat asses did nothing whatsoever.

Tort Reform is nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Tort Reform will NOT bring vitally needed Health Care to the over Forty-Five Million (45,000,000) to the Americans who cannot afford Health Care Insurance. Tort Reform will NOT prevent over Forty-Five Thousand (45,000) Americans from dying because they cannot afford to go to the doctor. Tort Reform is nothing but a Repug shell game, something to complain about, but when the rubber hit the road, and when the Repugs had the votes to pass Tort Reform, and the President to sign Tort Reform, they did nothing about such Tort Reform.

Um why not the entire clip when he spanks GOPs ass and points out that tort reform would save couple billions of dollars a year in a multi trillion industry? Yeah, thats the ticket. Lets save 3 billion and fuck all.

1) Saving that money is a good thing
2) Other experts expect more savings
3) You act as if tort reform is the only change conservatives or republicans want

1) For insurers of course!
2)Who?
3) What else is there? Current system maximizes profits and minimizes risks, Republican wet dream. Only if everything else ran like that....

Since when did 3 billion dollars become a puny amount of money?

Since republicans started to throw 30 times as much on foreign affairs.

Obama should preface every statement with the phrase, "I'm a n00b and a rube, but I think..."

When we win it all back in 2012 we'll pass Tort Reform through reconciliation because that's what the people want

Is this going to be one of those 'Dishonesty & Hypocrisy' arguments? If it is,this President really shouldn't go there. I can post several videos of Hopey Changey expressing stunning Dishonesty & Hypocrisy on many issues. 'Dishonesty & Hypocrisy' is an issue this guy should definitely avoid discussing. Here's a little advice for him...Quit wondering and just do it.

3 billion isn't exactly chump change. Someone stated it would lower costs 2%. for me that would save a couple hundred bucks a year. I can find a good use for that.
