US Trade Representative Ron Kirk says ratification of the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement has the support of all parties in Washington.
Speaking at the US Conference of Mayors last Friday, Kirk stressed that the trade deal is a huge opportunity not only for the US auto industry but also for all of America's manufacturing businesses.
He added that the Korean market is a strong consumer of US agricultural products with the US posting a record high in export volume Korea last year.
Kirk also emphasized that since the trade deal would create more jobs for Americans congressional approval is very important pointing out that the US is losing its position as a big trading partner in the Korean market.
Meanwhile, two Democrats who served in the Bill Clinton administration urged the US to push for prompt ratification of the trade pact.
In an opinion column published in the Wall Street Journal on Monday Thomas McLarty, who was Clinton's chief of staff and Nelson Cunningham, a former aide to Clinton and Senator Joe Biden wrote that "a full throated-campaign for the Korea, Colombia and Panama trade agreements" can "help reset this presidency."
President Barack Obama is expected to talk about the timeline of the Korea-US FTA in his annual State of the Union speech on Tuesday night, Washington time.

Those skeptical of the US-South Korea FTA are arguing that US will suffer losses due to the agreement, whereas others are claiming that it will be a boost for the US economy.
South Korea is probably going through the same hassle as well.
Of course it would be to our advantage to further our gains from the FTA, but then it would no longer be a mutual agreement. It would rather be a one-sided pact, which will weaken and damage the US-South Korea alliance.
US-South Korea FTA is a mutually beneficial agreement, through which the US-South Korea alliance will be strengthened.
President Obama has always emphasized the significance of this FTA and is going to urge the Congress to ratify the deal in his State of the Union address.
A much debated agreement...
A quick ratification will surely be of help to our staggering economy..
