Obama to invoke Roosevelt in asking voters for reelection - The Hill - covering Congress, Politics, Political Campaigns and Cap

By Amie Parnes
CHARLOTTE, N.C. –President Obama will argue he’s led the country through the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression when he accepts his party’s nomination Thursday night and asks voters for a second term.

Obama will invoke Franklin Roosevelt — the last sitting president to win reelection with employment over 8 percent — as he argues his path is not “quick or easy” but is the right one for the country.

Good choice. Considering the 4th quarter of 2008 was the worst since 1930.

Great news. I recall a certain speech by FDR where he said, "I welcome their hatred". Great stuff.

We all know how that "New Deal" worked out for this country in the 1930s.

Then there was FDR's attempt at stacking the Supreme Court by increasing the number of justices.

Then there was FDR banning private ownership of gold, via executive order, and forcing citizens to trade in their gold coins for PAPER money.

Then there was the economic stagnation of the late-1930s.

Then, thanks to World War 2, and not FDR's socialist programs, the U.S. economy recovered.

Even John F. Kennedy stated many times that the "New Deal" was a BAD DEAL for this country.

He is going to invoke the man who for almost a decade managed the worst economy in American history?

LOL okay

omg, the man can't just run on his own, he has to have Bill Clinton now he's going to INVOKE FDR...

please people vote us out of joke

FDR was a gifted jokster and orator. He could read a menu and make it sound like political dogma. During his 3rd term he might have suffered a stroke or two or three but the media and the democrat party ignored it. He was a zombie by the time democrats propped him up and ran him for a 4th term. The democrat party was planning on his death in office so they dumped the V.P. while he was on vacation and ran a timid bean counter senator from Missouri who could be counted on not to make waves and with the cooperation of the left wing media they turned the Truman failure into a fake legend of give'em hell Harry. That's how it works when the media becomes an arm of the administration.
